Brimstone and Pointsix Take on the 25 Hour!

#1

Northern California’s winningest Spec E30 teams are combining efforts to compete for top honors in the E2 class of NASA’s 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Valley Motorwerks in Rancho Cordova is premiering its new racing division, Pointsix Motorsports. Valley Motorwerks is Northern California’s premier independent BMW service and repair facility and Pointsix Motorsports is responsible for preparing and servicing the top 3 Spec E30’s on the west coast.

Combining efforts with Valley Motorwerks is extreme sport sponsorship venture, Brimstone Dynasty. Brimstone Dynasty sponsors extreme sports athletes of varied disciplines as well as up and coming race car drivers such as Adam Andretti.
The Pointsix/Brimstone car will be piloted by five drivers who all have competed in the Norcal SpecE30 series and have many hours of experience racing at Thunderhill. NASA’s chief licensing instructor, past 25 hour champion, 2007 Norcal Spec E30 champion, and multiple other regional and national championship winning driver Donny Edwards tops the list. Donny’s Spec E30 teammate for the 2008 season Elliott Taylor, founder of Brimstone Dynasty, will also be driving. Next in the lineup is Pointsix principle Walter Ford. Walter began auto crossing BMW’s a few years back and quickly progressed to road racing with BMWCCA in his I-Prepared class M3. Walter has also competed in several Spec E30 races this year and has done very well. Also from Pointsix racing is Kevin Borchers. Kevin has been racing for two seasons and won the 2007 Norcal Spec E30 championship with teammate Donny Edwards, and backed it up in 2008 with another championship with teammate Carl Chiu. Carl Chiu is first alternate for the team. Carl is a graduate of the Skip Barber Racing School at Infineon and began racing this year. In his first season of racing he shared the SpecE30 regional championship honors with Kevin Borchers.

As everyone in the endurance racing world knows, a racing team is only as good as their crew. Pointsix Motorsports and Brimstone Dynasty are extremely fortunate to have a world class crew to back them up. Long-time BMW master technician Michael Luce will be taking on the responsibility of crew chief for the team. Michael will be joined by his right hand man Alex Johnson who has teamed up with Michael before for a 2nd overall place finish in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill. Both Alex and Michael have Grand Am experience with the 2006 Performance Motorsports team. Other crew members include BMW STEP program graduate Sergey Ryssev, Wyotech graduate Jonathan Parvu.

Driving the 1991 BMW 325is, the team hopes to make a serious charge for the E2 class win. The combination of driver and crew talent should lend itself to a successful attempt. Special thanks to all our sponsors: Brimstone Dynasty, Pointsix Motorsports, Trout Farm Photography, Durtworks Construction, PIAA Lighting, and Sacramento Bariatric Medical Associates.

No not yet. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time though!

For those of you playing along at home (like me), live timing info is up at http://www.nasa25hour.com/timing

Test day today, the race starts tomorrow.

Thanks for the timing info?

Is there any way to find out information about each of the teams competing?

I feel like I need to be up there personally urging the E30 guys on against the buzzing hoard of Miatas…

Kregg, check out the 25hr web site, there’s an entry list at the very least.

The race is currently red flagged due to fog. boooring.

Here’s a pic of Donny driving (or at least, someone wearing a helmet that looks a lot like Donny’s):

Check out those lights! What’s that thing sticking up on top of the windshield?
