BMW CCA Virginia - April 14-16

#1

Since several E30 racers can’t or do not want to race Shenandoah Circuit is there any interest in getting a few spec e30’s for VIR in Mid April.

I also may go to NASA Ohio on April 21,22 to race Mid-Ohio again depending on interest from our E30 group

I’ll see you at VIR, however I’ll be in KStock trim about 3 seconds behind you. Perhaphs I’ll take the weight out of the car and run Barney in KP…and I’ll still be 3 seconds behind you. See you there, Robert (I’ve got an excuse for everything) Patton

Hey

Depending on how things go at Shen/Summit I may try and run K stock at VIR, it would be nice if we could have 3 or 4 cars…Steve Stubbs? Carter? Bueller?

Yo Al, when I saw the handle "fartbref" I was inclined to discount any words of wisdom from the author. Then I find that it is Al Taylor and now I a) double discount the words you type…b) take the words as wisdom from a guy with great experience…c) move on to the next post…c) laugh outloud at the post’s cynical nature…d) look for hidden meaning in the posts…e) all of the above. Regards, Robert Patton

Seriously speaking…If you stripped the car’s interior to lower the weight, as Spec e30 allows, it is hard to go backwards to K Stock. And, if the interior didn’t throw you out of K Stock, the the adjustable camber (front and rear) will throw you out. Having said that , it would be great fun to see some other KS cars out there. Thus far the field for KP is growing to be a strong one…Billy Jack, Mike Hinkley, Carlton and several others have submitted their applications. Oops, I forgot to mention the thing that makes KS racing really stink…it is the car-only weight of 2811 pounds( wow, with this fat driver that’s a race weight of close to 3050 pounds) and the car is really sssllllloooooow. Or, perhaps the driver is slow. Enough rambling, come and join the fray at VIR. Regards, Robert Patton

Hey Mr. P

Yep, looks like KP is the place for me, have not really "gutted" the car but have the camber stuff in place and no CAT. I need practise in the car so if I dont blow it up at SHen I will be at VIR.

Rev. Alonzo Graham Taylor III esq. etc.

Yo Al, like Tony the Tiger sez, "Grrrrrreat." See you at VIR. You are correct about the catalytic converter as KS does require that item too. Regards, Robert (Mr. Excues) Patton

Damn, I’d hoped to be there working tech for CCA but it’s Easter Weekend and that is a guaranteed family weekend every year. Hell, I’ll be in either NC or SC that weekend but it’s just not gonna work out. I’d hoped to hang out and check out your cars and all. Maybe next time, have fun y’all!

Jack, did you do the tech at Mid Ohio in May of 2004. I had innocently enough installed a 4.10 differential in the K Stock-mobile only to find out that that is not allowed (unless I were driving an automatic 325is car), a rookie mistake. Embarrassed…you bet. There was little competition there that weekend in KP, so I ended up with a disqualification for my KS efforts and a win in KP.Needless to say the 4.10 was removed and the 3.73 reinstalled. Anybody need a good 4.10 LSD? I look forward to meeting you at a NASA orBMWCCA event in the future. Regards, Robet Patton

I haven’t looked at the calendar but since it’s Easter weekend, I’ll be at Ocean Isle Beach, NC with the family.

Whoever goes to VIR…give us a good report after the race.
