Group:
Last week, I picked up three more rear shocks from Bilstein, to be used by the Southeast, Great Lakes, and NorCal Regions for tech. Each has “Spec E30” stamped into the shock body and we thank Bilstein for their support. Feel free to contact them if you want to run their decals on your car (I do), but it’s not required.
These shocks will be shipped to the respective Spec E30 Regional Series Directors, to be used as they choose.
Traditionally, we choose a name from a hat, from the list of drivers that weekend and one driver gets the Spec E30 rear shock, although the Regional Directors can use any method they prefer. The driver’s shock is then labeled and sent to Bilstein for an inspection.
There is no cost to the driver for this and the shock is returned, usually within a couple of weeks. And if the driver has an event prior to the return, he/she can continue to use the Spec E30 shock.
The swap takes about 5 minutes at the track and it’s worked great every time we’ve done it. So far, all have been legal.
Also, we are working with NASA on more sponsorship, so we can provide a “Tech Kit” to each region that will possibly include a camber gauge (we’re still working on a good procedure for this, as camber changes when the steering angle is changed, and we have to do it correctly for Tech), toe plates to measure track width, a torque wrench to check diff lockup per Robert Patton’s helpful tips for this, and a few other items.
The Tech Kit is to be used as the local Regional Directors think is appropriate.
