I agree. That is not in the spirit of the rules in my opinion. Thats not an air dam, that a complete replacement.

Please don’t misconstrue my point. I’m not condemning the bumper on the #44 car. I’m pointing out the rules which allow it to happen.
I think the #44 car’s bumper fits exactly the way the rule is written. The spirit is up for debate, but it seems to be legal given the rules.
As long as there are different rules for the different model years there will always be points of contention. I personally feel this to be a gross inequity within the rules. And no, I don’t think my opinion will change once I finally get out there and race.

Ok, well here is the disclaimer. The following opinion is mine and mine alone.
A while back there was a big deal over the fact Michael Osborne was considering modifying or manufacturing his own front sway bar. There were quite a few people that said this was not in the spirit of the rules. The front bumper/ air dam on the front of the 44 car in that picture is definetely a modified or manufactured piece but no is or has cried foul. Is there a difference? Just looking for other peoples opinions.
Sorry to thread jack but we all know how killer the Beertech cars look so there is no need to tell you anymore
It all goes back to the stupid bumper rule, I wish they would just change it to be stock, and switchable between model years. I still don’t understand why that rule is in there?
9.3.13.3. Front spoilers, air dams, and splitters are permitted, provided they do not protrude more than two (2) inches beyond the overall outline of the body when viewed from above, perpendicular to the ground, or aft of the forward most part of the fender opening. This body outline does not include bumpers or bumper mounts, but does include the integrated bumper assemblies of 1989 to 1991 models.
9.3.13.3.1. Vehicles with integrated bumper assemblies, 1989 to 1991models, may use aftermarket front one-piece bumper/spoiler unit, provided the original crash bar is maintained.
Oh and the beertech cars look great

You back a few good points.
1.) Why make acceptations for one and not another?
Just make it open/free as long as it’s stock/OEM. It not like you getting any more or less speed out of a bumper. After all isn’t the spirit of the rules and spec e30 to make this an affordable series with evenly matched cars?
2.) the BeerTech cars do look good.
As for my remarks about the rules. I’d rather deal with a few rules that not everyone agrees with than a lot of rule changes that effect our ability to keep our cars legal.

I don’t think your opinion will change but I do think (and hope) that it won’t be such a big deal to you. A few of the other big-bumper guys complained…until they started racing. They probably still have the same opinion but they just don’t complain about it anymore. Maybe they’re more concerned about lap times and qualifying positions and close racing and having track burgers with the other Spec E30 drivers and bench racing after the day is over and having a beer at dinner Saturday night and thinking about tire strategy and, and, and…
