DeVinney got a 12th and a 17 the two days…which considering the track looked like they were having an Easter Egg Hunt after the race is quite good. Guess he brought it back with the fenders on it…many did not. Chuck
Barber SCCA Spec Miata Race
Thanks, Chuck. I managed to accomplish my goals of (1) finishing enough races to keep my national license and (2) no body shop bills.
With 47-ish Miatas on track it did look like someone spilled the Skittles. Very little serious carnage (if you don’t count the guy who plugged it in the wall on the out lap in Session 1 of Test Day).
I saw something I’ve never seen before - even on Jones’ car - a tire mark on the top of the trunk. One of the OPM guys was an innocent bystander when one Miata launched off another and skittered across his deck lid. Wild stuff.
Chuck had a great weekend amongst an unusually large ITA crowd (on track with ITS, ITR, and others). His lap times were the class of the ITA field and evidently he drove more consistently than the faster ITR and ITS cars. Even with fast laps 1-2 seconds faster, they never could get much of a gap on him. It was entertaining watching a breadbox ITA E30 dogging an ITR Z3 on a “handling” track.
I know IndyJim disagrees, but I still think Barber is up there amongst the best track experiences in the US.

Link might be goofed. It takes me to a Miata start.
Don, Chuck’s car is an eta. Brand new too. It’s predecessor was punted into a wall at RA in Jul.
I concur. Just about every color of skittles was represented in that Miata start video. Is there a full race video?

I think that was the point. I am in the silver/red/black Skittle in +/- row 6.
I’ll try to post video later.
Thank God the car is 300 lbs lighter than the E30 on the same tire. It got good and greasy after a few laps!
Don, yes ETA. After I was totaled at RA in July, and after disassembling/reassembling/dynoing a customer motor, it took me 26 days, including Mark Stewart at Kirk Racing doing the cage, to get a log book. Shook it down Friday test day. Wasn’t as good as Sunday on Saturday so I let a Miata win  Sunday was different as we made a track bar and air pressure adjustment and the car was dialed. Looking toward the SIC at RR in October since the Miata and I are tied with 6 wins a peace for the championship. Chuck
You will be less uncompetitive running in Spec E30 while you wait to get an i motor than you would be in ITA. The differences in allowances between SE30 and IT (suspension, ECU, intake, exhaust) would make ITA a hugely expensive detour IMHO.
Sure, an e motor is illegal in Spec E30, but nobody is going to protest you unless you beat them.
