Barber Roll Call / Official Smack Talk Thread

#1

Echoing BMW’s new theme of Efficient Dynamics, let’s combine the “who’s coming” and “Smacktalk” into one all-purpose thread.

As of yesterday, Julie our cruise director reports the following names, and keep in mind that the late fee starts 10 days prior - May 28.

Matt Thornton (Racing Debut, I believe, correct Matt?)
Jonathan Stroup
David White
Travis Wilson
Laura Patton
Robert Patton
Charles Taylor

I know Barber is no Roebling, but some say it’s a pretty nice track all the same. Enduro and extra track time available on Friday, so y’all come out!

I’ll be there. I look forward to beating up on Dave who I assume is bringing JPs car.

#3

Damion, well played. Kept it to 2 short sentences. Anyone else?

#4

Yep, it’ll be my debut race! I’m taking the comp school on Friday and assuming all goes well I’ll be on the grid Saturday and Sunday.

Just what we all needed… another Southeast Spec e30!!!

I’m still on the fence. Really hoping to make it, but my family is down visiting from Montana that weekend so its dicey at this point.

I have two new fuel pumps on order and just installed my rear sway bar today, so can’t wait to get back out and knock off a couple more races out of my rookie book.

Barber is an awesome track though! If any of you haven’t been to the motorcycle museum, you gotta see it, even if you’re not a bike guy its incredible. :cheer:

Too far for me…Have fun!

Barber is on my list for 2009. You guys have fun and be sure to bring a little something extra with you when we’ll meet up at CMP.

Till then…

#8

I’m sure that it is no surprise, but I will not be able to make it to Barber. I do think that I should be able to make my '08 debut at CMP. The new kiddie is plump (much like his father) and occasionally happy, so ‘let the racing season begin’…

#9

I’m kind of on the fence as well. Hell of a long tow and I know Damion wants a freebie.

I wish I could join the smack. As some of you know, I lost coolant in the IFU Saturday evening at RR and overheated. It appears that the head gasket is blown, or worse. I will be trying to fix it next week, but the odds of being ready are slim. But I will be there anyway, helping my son, brother, and nephew in HPDE. See you there. BTW, Barber is a sweet, challenging track; and the facility is first class.

Also, I am looking for a ride in the Friday Enduro since my car is disabled. I’ll put up another thread for that.

#13

I’ll be there. By far my favorite track. I think I will even go ahead and win of the races, just for giggles.

Matt, welcome. I have never driven Barber, so I’ll be joining you at the back of the pack.

M3Bill… By winning a race, you mean like the no-arms race at Road Atlanta (not drinking probably is a huge advantage).

No Queertech or MLT this time? Do we still get our t-shirts? Beertech logo with a tear rolling off?

I heard Dave White and Randy Mueller will be rockin JP’s hotrod. Settle down JP, I mean your cheater car.

You don’t mean “cheater” do you? You mean the one with the bent rules.

My car is more legal than yours…

#17

Wow, arent we bitter lately?

#18

Back to our regularly scheduled program…

It looks like the car is finally good, so I’m hoping to give others a good race at Barber. At Roebling Road the car went from last (no qualifing due to clutch)to 6th in Saturday’s race. Moses was the only one to pass during the IFU (Skeen and JP were too far back), but the driver (or car?) had nothing for him. Ditto on Sunday, as Moses and Skeen checked out leaving me to race with JP and Carlton. I had 3rd, but driver error (I screwed-up and went for a dirt ride) caused a drop to 5th, to battle back to 4th.

The point in all of this rambling…RR is a forgiving race track and we love it for that reason. Barber and RA are not forgiving (not to mention far away for NC folks)and the car count for this race reflect the obvious.Plus it was time to get back on-topic.

So, who else is comming out to race? Atlanta Guys? Is Mueller racing with White?

Hey for those two guys I’ve got a car to sell!

Regards, Robert Patton
