Going to test the new engine at an autocross Sunday. Anybody know what SCCA class our cars should run in? I started looking at the the morass of info in the classing rules but thought I could avoid a bunch of reading.
thanx,

autocross class
No, I don’t think so. The interior being stripped out will move you to prepared. I run mine in F/P. So far, nobody else has a car in that class so I’m the winnah.

Can you not strip your interior in IT class rules? I know you can run in your street prepared class (DSP) if you follow all IT rules. Someone clue me in? FP might have less competition…
Not an expert, but I autocrossed mine a couple of times last year, and was told that DSP was the class for specE30 cars. Everything must be to spec (no Hoosiers, or Kumos). You could double check on the autocross.us forum. Those guys keep up on the rules better than I do.
Right or wrong, they had me run in FP yesterday. There was some debate but the rules-meister said had to be in prepared class because of the interior being stripped.
I didn’t really care about what class. Just wanted to drive. I’m curious now so may check the rules in detail.

The rules are posted on the SCCA web site, you just have to dig for them. I don’t recall seeing any allowance for “IT” or similar cars in SP. Perhaps that is a regional thing? I live in an area where autocrossers tend to take themselves a little too seriously, so they WILL give me grief if I’m in the wrong class. When I read the rule book last year, it was pretty apparent I wouldn’t fit in SP, which is pretty hotly contested. I took safe haven in Prepared, because autocross to me is just a fun diversion and I don’t need any more $5 tropies or etched glassware.
If you read the SCCA autox rules it says you may run a car in an IT class in the respective SP class, as long as you don’t mix the rules. It is either all IT or all SP. Who wants to get serious about racing in a parking lot…
