Not sure the cause of the red flag, but one might guess it was 944 related.
The Red flag was shown when a 944 got off in T10 then came back across the track into the concrete wall along the hot pits.
see the rule in the CCR listed below
So I led again going through turn 1, than a lap or so later chris had closed the gap and decided to make a pass in T5 turn exit. Chris tends to take T5 from far left, I tend to take it from the middle or slightly right of middle. Either way coming out of T5 I had the middle of the track chris had the far left, but enough pavement for all four tires to be on the track.
The "school" line thu T5 is tight left. Physics pushes you out left coming out of T4. The racing line is whatever it needs to be.
Like I said it was only a guess on my part, because it is easy to get loose there

Carlton, others, it sounds like a short weekend of racing with the flags caused by the other race groups. Eventful, but short. Thanks for the update. As the lead car when wheels were tapped (my rear, other driver’s front) and as the chase car (other driver’s rear, my front) , I understand the situation from both sides. As stated, the front car spins and the second car continues on track.Typically there is no right answer, other than both parties shake hands and continue to race. Penalties and hard feelings usually go hand-in-hand with damages to the cars. I’ve been lucky in both of my on-track excursions as there was no appreciable damage to the cars. In my case(s) reports to the "tower" likely were just that a spin occurred. I’m hoping for a favorable outcome for you guys. Regards, Robert Patton
It is a shame that the contact to Steve’s car will cost him two wheels as one cracked and the other bent.

…warm up had Skip Bennet’s car driven by Jan (?sp?) turning a 1:29.8 which also happened to be the best time of the entire weekend.

FYI It’s "Jens" Scott.

I would like to make some comments regarding the contact that happened to me on Saturday.
I will be the first to admit that I was a little upset on Saturday regarding the contact in turn 10. I really thought I was owed an explanation after the incident that I did not get. I handled it like all incidents should be handled: I contacted the Acting Series Administrator (Carlton) and was advised to speak with J.J. the Race Director (I think that is his title).
Whatever decisions were made, I accept them because I believe that they are more than capable to render a fair decision.
On Sunday, Jens approached me and profusely apologized for the incident. He did not realize who he had made contact with on Saturday and upon hearing that I was the person, immediately seeked me out in the paddock to apologize.
He also assisted me with my car before and after the race. I perceived a bunch of things on Saturday about Jens that were flat out wrong. Jens is a stand up guy who more than made ammends for the incident on the track. It is more than I can say for the other "incident" I had in turn 10 when a person in another series ran me off into the gravel in turn 10 and then blamed it on me.
Does this make Jens’ bad decision right? No. But, I cannot think of one person on the track who does not make a mistake. Even Carter, who, in the two years I have been racing, has made only one really noticeable mistake that I know of. But, nobody is perfect and every mistake has the potential for something like this to happen. This is racing
What does make this situation better is that Jens owed up to the mistake and tried to do everything in his power to make the situation better. I think (hope) Jens learned from this, as I have, and all of us can move on and continue having our passion for racing as we always have. I still do and am hoping the car will be ready for Nationals.
Go Spec E30!
-Steve
For the record, it was one wheel that is cracked. The other was bent at VIR.
Wonderful to read. It’s racing; if we expect people not to do dumb things out there, we’re living in a fantasy world. We’ve all had brain fade from time to time. That Jens made good on faux paus with his actions speaks volumes for his ethics as well as that of the series competitors. It’s important that we also try to respond as Steve did; accept an apology when it is sincerely offered and realize that such things can and will happen.
I don’t know any of the characters in the story, just impressed with the actions of the Spec E30 community, and look forward to running with you guys.
Ya’ll are some cool dudes… I broke a legg, but hope to be racin’ next season… I like the way Carlton descirbes is race… and who’se SteveKappy, what car #? I agree racin’ is rough, but is it necessesary to get all girly and apologetic? I mean if someone messed up with the rules, shouldn’t he get reprimanted. This Jens person hit SteveKappy right? and so shouldn’t he get suspended according to what Carter says? When’s the last race of this seeson?
Summit was a blast! First impression after being away for a year (China, stolen trailer, work demands…) WHAT A GREAT BUNCH OF GUYS!
I jumped down to HPDE2 to shake the rust out of my head and not hold up the current HPDE3 guys. It was terrific getting back out onto the track, car did great! Time to get back up to DE3 and start giving point-bys in the corners…
Some random thoughts: Carlton is getting fast. He led Saturday for several laps and gained back two very difficult positions on Sunday - great running. Watch out Chris and Carter.
Ken, Steve and Kappy are great to hang out with. Willing to help newbies out, share advice and keep an extra set of watchful eyes peeled. (thanks for spotting the pin in the fire system Kappy!)
Doc Herrington is fast and consistent. I need to spend more time down in the carousel watching the big dogs run - you guys are quick!
Skip and Jens are great guys who are willing to pitch in and help at a moment’s notice
Jon McAvoy’s new paint seems to have made him faster - or more aggresive. Saw him finish fourth on Saturday and run hard on Sunday. Truly enjoyed paddocking next to you man.
Thank you to the entire crew - I had the best time with y’all. It’s really gratifying that you make an HPDE guy feel like part of the crowd! See everybody in October?

With an attitude towards contact and culpability such as you have, I’m glad you’ll be racing down in Florida and not up in the MA Region with me next season. Your posts such as this and the one requesting number 69 because it’s your "favorite number" have been juvenile and have noticeably gone against the grain of the otherwise informative discussions on this forum.
Sasha
Sasha,
I couldn’t agree with you comments more, but sometimes its’ better just to ignore this type of want-a-be. But since you’ve broken the ice…I’ll indulge and expand on your comments. I think that in certain instances, (specifically this one) our forum administrator could be more selective about who is allowed to post.
[b]
The first rule being:
Seriously though…This forum is an excellent resource for folks interested in Spec E30 racing. Unfortunately when you open discussions up to the public via the web, you have to deal with the ‘jackball’ factor.
Contact between drivers is serious business both in reputation and financial consequences. It is extremely annoying when someone like this chimes in and if I were in charge of the forum, I would block this person from posting.
Sasha and Brain,
I’m not following your line of thinking about FemmeFatale. She was saying that the banter in this thread was girly, and that she was wondering why the people who made contact on the track wern’t getting reprimanded. I’m not seeing the problem here. Apologies and reprimands should be expected.
thanks,
bruce

bruce,
I’m gunna have to call the "5 second rule" here. There’s more to it than this single post. If you reseach the history of what Sasha and I are talking about, I think you’ll understand
brain
Mr. Leggworks,
"Appreciate you backin’ me up. Looks like some of the other racers (a.ka Brain, (or lack of brain), and Sansha) feel a bit afraid of a female racin’. I guess this is what Danica needs to deal with. My way of being is stong, hey, they need to learn to handle it and stop feelin’ intimitaded by some estrogen.
Young lady…estrogen got nothing to do with it. Im proud to say that my boss is a female (extremely rare for a fighter pilot). I have a great deal of respect for her as a professional and fellow pilot, as I do for all women, regardless of chosen profession or passtime.
Do us all a favor…After you do some DE’s, get a Comp Lic. build a car and actually register to race…talk as much "smack" as you want…Until then keep your posts confined to the "fema-nazi teenager" group on myspace.

Lets please all nip the impending nonesense in the bud. Brain. I hear ya…
Femme, come on out to the track and get to know these guys before you start with that kind of posting. One thing I can guarantee is a Navy pilot most certainly has a Brain and knows how to use it.
