Scott, your image of the two BeerTech cars is great work.
Any news yet from CMP?

That is actually Damion and JP.
I believe it was shot by Patrick Clifford’s (944 Porsche #23) wife, Jan… I just did a little photoshop with it… I have no idea why? Sometimes that sh!t just happens  But thanks
My CMP recap - I’ve never had a more frustrating weekend at the track. I chased problems (some self induced) with the car all weekend.
Saturday I qualified 10th in the rain and was running 8th about 2/3 through the race when my car decided it was done racing and would simply apply the brakes itself and make me stop. Got towed in and replaced the rear calipers and hoped Sunday would be different.
Sunday qualifying ended halfway through my second hot lap when the car locked itself down again. This time I was at least able to limp to the pits. I then proeeded to remove the ABS relay and Julie Pantas graciously let me run a few laps with TT and the car seemed fine (other than me locking up the inside front on about every other turn). Started the race in 18th and finished 10th and managed to make it to the final lap before flat spotting the right front tire. I think it was a good exercise to learn to control the lockup without ABS, but I felt like I could only brake about 90% as agressive without ABS as with.
It appears that I have an issue with my ABS pump (may the same issue as Scott Lear on the GRM SpecE30??). I’ve got a spare pump and will be changing that out soon and hoping for the best.
Steven
Steve, mechanical or electrical rev limiter at 55-5800rpm for four races in a row (and getting worse) = frustrating.
At least that is my excuse as well as my race(s) report.
Keep on driving, Robert Patton
Robert,
I noticed a thread on Bimmerforums about rev limit drop.
Not sure what all you’ve looked at (or haven’t looked at yet) but here are a few things people said to check:
bad crank sensor
Speed sensor in the Diff
harmonic balancer
Here’s a link: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=971882
Hope you figure it out soon.
Scott
Robert, just a thought (saw on a different post)… Check the harmonic balancer. Make sure it’s tight, teeth are good, not delamenating, no dumbdumbs stuck in there, etc.
Scott, Craig, I’ve not checked the balancer, but I’ll give it a visual inspection tonite. Just about everything else has been swapped-out with known good parts from Laura’s car. Her’s keeps driving, mine doesn’t.
Regards, Robert
The “Goldmember” Report,
To say Sat was wet is an understatement. I watched qualifying from the sand trap at the kink. Ranger’s ill fated miata pass was very shagadelic. Pink Panter’s pirouette was awesome, and seeing the right side of the spec Miata at point blank range was damn scary. Last place in the race sucked.
Sunday was better, qualified 15th (ugh), finished 9th .
I got to take my father for his first ever “race car ride.” We went out with HPDE 4. We made about 5 laps and then the engine blew up. I think it’s something that holds the piston to the rod. There was oil and coolant everywhere.
Looks like Roebling won’t happen .
Thanks to everyone for a great weekend. See ya!

Sorry to hear. I had a great time racing with you this past weekend, and I’ll miss getting to play leap frog with you and out running you at RRR :pinch:
Get that thing fixed and get back out there.
Outrunning me at Roebling Road? I wish I could give you the chance. JP and several others say that track is a blast. I’ve never been; only seen VIR, CMP, and The Rock. Still, it sure would be fun to pass you there.
Robert, I’ll ask my mechanic about your troubles. Thanks for the encouragement.
If you can scare up a spare m20 bring it to the house. I can have it up and running in the corse of a weekend. I have a head if you can find a block.
Anyone out there have a spare motor for sale??? Missing Roebling shouldn’t be an option, peroid.
Bob I just watched Scotts video and you made some great passes. Soory to hear abut your misfortunes. Get the thing fixed. It is really good to see a lot of the guys in the southeast stepping their games up and running much faster. Keep up the good work!
JP, Thanks man. I have a spare motor sitting at Carr Industries, just gotta go get it and install it. My good friend (and Master BMW mechanic ) can do it in a day or two depending on the amount of beer we drink in the process. May 18 is my 17th wedding anniversary and Damion won’t let me borrow the ring he bought his wife so he could race on his 10th.
Damion, thanks for the encouragement. It helped. Where can I see that video?
Sounds like an interesting weekend. I always look forward to videos from CMP, and the rain should make the footage even better. Sounds like Beertech has done pretty damn well in the past few weekends. But how was JP on pole–did Skeen not wake up in time for qualifying?
M3Bill…what went wrong?
Mike was busy being a PRO driver this past weekend…where he should be.
I think he took a break from that too…it appears he’s had some skin work done
(Check the T-shirt)
Robert, Lee (the aformentioned Master BMW wrench bender) says to look at the throttle potentiometer as a potentional source. If it’s not working properly, you won’t get full rich at full throttle. Also, check the gap at the harmonic balancer and the sensor. Too much gap will cause a weak signal. Also, check the ignition coil. He said to start with the easiest, least expensive thing and work up from there. Hope it helps.
Steven - that is one crazy thing to happen. Let me know if the pump doesn’t work out, I have a spare as well I would be willing to send your way. Did you also consider the proportioning valve?
Best of luck,
Ed
Thanks Ed, I’ll let you know.
Scott Lear tried removing the proportioning valve first when he had the same issue on his GRM SpecE30 without success. By pulling the ABS relay on my car, the issue immediately disappeared. So it seems that the problem is isolated to the ABS system. It will be interesting to see if changing the pump fixes the issue…
Steven
Sounds good. You have probably heard of this, but the overvoltage relay can blow that controls ABS, but it can be fixed. Mike’s ABS was not working (but no full wheel lockup) and the following fix worked.
