Hey,
Has anybody seen the Enduro results yets?
Cyndi
Any news yet from CMP?
Not official since there aren’t results posted yet, but I believe Team CoatTails took the E2 win (2nd overall)… Mostly due to James Clay’s driving. JP and Dave White had a shot until JP almost lost it coming out of the kink…they ended up 2nd. Myself and Brian Jones did not finish due to a flat tire about 3/4 into it. Malt Liquor Tech placed 3rd.
Don’t quote me on any of this though… Over and out from CMP.

Correction: BeerTech Finished a WEAK 3rd behind Team Malt Liquor Tech who finished a STRONG 2nd with a car that was deemed a “steaming pile of sh!t” after the race.

He also apparently sucks at driving. Maybe next time PJ.
Here’s a CMP story. “My what big eyes you have”.
Qual today was wet. I spent most of it behind a Miata. He wasn’t that fast (ok, neither am I), but I letting folks by and my own ineptitude were preventing me from getting the pass. Finally the stars aligned just right, there was no traffic and I had a good run at 8. I was gonna get by this guy before the kink.
As a rookie, I can count my race passes on one hand. So any pass I do is fairly significant. Passing the Miata would increase my lifetime pass total by maybe 25%.
My good run at 8 did the job. And I was a celebratin’ mofo. I’d just executed a pass. Kiss my ass and call me sweet cheeks.
Remember now, it was raining hard enough that there is standing water all over the place, and the patterns of water were changing constantly.
I got the SOB with plenty of time to set up for the kink. I was hauling ass, but really no faster then the earlier laps. This was going to be MY LAP because I now had open track. I was gonna open a can of whoopass.
I made it thru the kink just fine with the Miata now drafting right behind me.
Then in a blink of an eye I was suddenly…backwards. I had spun 180deg so fast that it hardly registered. The Miata and I were now bumper to bumper. Front bumpers. I remember seeing his really big eyes.
It wasn’t really an anxious moment. I was right on line heading towards turn 11. I was still ahead of the damn Miata. I was just…backwards.
After a couple min I started thinking about how to recover from this. I had the clutch in, but after breifly hitting the brakes, I’d backed off the brakes in order to attempt to control the direct of the slide. There was already someone in the infield so I didn’t want to go that way. And it didn’t seem safe to end up on the track, so I figured that I’d try to slide towards the infield (towards the pits).
Eventually the slide seemed to adopt a vector that would take me towards the pits, so then I hit the brakes. It was all very civilized. A moment later I was off the track and backwards into the wet grass. “Perfect”, I thought. “Now I’m off the track”.
Which is when the car seemed to accelerate at 10g’s. Goddamn how that wet grass was frictionless. What seemed like only an amusing misadventure had just turned very evil. I was watching the tire wall approach in my rear view mirror and it was looking bad for the kid.
But it worked out ok. I slid to a stop near Camden. Did a couple donuts trying to get back on to the track and off I went. My fastest lap for Qual turned out to be the warm up lap. Sigh.
CMP was great for me this weekend. After all the problems I had in the first visit this year it was good to have the weekend turn out like it did.
Sat. we had a wet qualifying and I was able to secure the pole. JP and I had a good battle. We spent a lot of the race sideways which was wet as well. He has good video that he’ll post at some point I hope. At the end I came out on top.
Sun. qualifying was slick as the track had not fully dried out from the previous days rain. I qualified 2nd with JP on the pole. We had a standing and JP got a great but I would be in the lead before the end of lap 1. We swapped places a couple of times and after a few bobbles by JP I opened a slight gap which I has able to maintain til the end. JP did a great job pushing me all weekend.
I owe thanks to Alex at Molitor Motorsports for the motor and all the work he put in on the car over the off season. It feels good to redeem my myself. CMP is once again my bitch!

Not until you sweep both of the wins and Fast Laps…
I’ll have an update with video a little later, but Damion summed it up well. I was fast but made crucial mistakes in each race. Damion was fast and clean and deserved both wins. I had a blast both days dicing with you!
JP
Sounds like an interesting weekend. I always look forward to videos from CMP, and the rain should make the footage even better. Sounds like Beertech has done pretty damn well in the past few weekends. But how was JP on pole–did Skeen not wake up in time for qualifying?

Also note worthy is your courtesy in letting the E30 front runners by with a lift of the throttle so they could keep after their race. I had a similar experience at CMP this weekend with multiple point bys by E30 guys so I could keep my momentum. Its nice to see the respect for the two different classes coming together.

Evan, I agree 100%. I worked my way through the entire E30 field and there wasn’t one hang up (thanks spec E30 guys).
I got point by after point by. I expected that to change as I approached the leaders but they couldn’t have shown more courtesy.

I ran really well in February (fairly consistent 1:53’s in the Sunday race after I fell behind due to transmission problems), so I came into this weekend looking to improve on that performance, but today my best lap was in the high 1:55’s. I really can’t figure out why, other than the fact that today’s race was our only real dry session, so maybe it was a lack of practice. I don’t know. I’m just frustrated.
And then there was the additional fact that this was my first real wet track experience this weekend. I’d be lying if I said I enjoyed it.
Great driving Jim although I think you need to show little bit more emotion at the end of the race.
It would be interesting to find out which tires racers were using on Sunday. I am wondering if there will be any correlation of R-888 vs. RA-1 in performance.
