3.1.20.6. Tire tread (that portion of the tire that contacts the ground under static conditions) shall not protrude beyond the fender opening when viewed from the top perpendicular to the ground. To determine compliance, the vehicle should be rolled through a powdered substance, as raced with driver, in order to indicate the tire tread contact patch under static conditions.
I like this one.
I was reading the rules looking for ideas for our dyno limit rule, and all I see is “Overhauled engines must conform to the power and torque specification, and will be sealed by an approved vendor.”, with no further explanations… I guess that part is still being worked on.

Funny, but we wanted to get a draft of the E30 rules to get some ideas for SSM!
We are working on the same plan to have prescribed maximum hp/tq at various points along the curve. We want to have a simple, sealable way to tune or de-tune as needed to meet the rules.
I don’t think SSM will be significantly cheaper than SE30. As a NASA class, it still provides an opportunity for a hotshoe to win at nationals. That win gets an invitation to the Mazda shootout for a free MK5 Cup ride for a season in SCCA Pro Racing. You will see $5k home-built SSMs and $30k shop-built SSMs and everything in between.
I think the class minimizes the perceived and real differences between the SM models (not an issue in SE30 after the 318 phase-out) and eliminates a lot of areas where the real expensive development occurs in SM (tech-shed legal engine work, undetectable fuel additives, AFM tweaks, etc).
I think you will see a greater proportion of budget racers ($10-15k cars?), but it won’t be devoid of Racers X.
IMHO.

That Racer X guy is a sure busy guy. He races in every series.
He may show up on Top Gear to challenge The Stig.
