All the Stuff they Inspected - 2011 Edition

#1

In winter refurb mode, Team BTM Motorwerks came up with a list of the 13 major areas NASA Norcal inspected last year on the top four finishers, and occasionally on random finishers throughout the pack.

http://btmmotorwerksracing.blogspot.com/2012/01/if-you-build-it-they-will-inspect-it.html

I don’t know if they’re as detailed in other regions, but this gives you a pretty good idea of what could be inspected throughout the year. Good luck in 2012 everyone!

Flywheel weighed at the track! That would take me all day.

What’s the magic number on the dyno? 165? I’m not to opposed to getting dynoed at the track unless I have to pay for it but I don’t see anywhere in the rules that says we need to be dynoed.

I would see about 165hp (on a DynoJet) as being the max that I’d expect to see from a legal engine. But I would be just as interested in the shape of the torque curve. A single example might not mean much, but if one runs several cars on the dyno on that day and one stands out I’d give it a lot of attention.

There is no way in hell I’m taking my flywheel out of the car post race, except for the championships.

x2, even if it was for my first win.

Looking at the lap times at CMP this past weekend, dont think we need to take anything apart…other than uncapping some beer bottles.

Pulling the transmission at the track wasn’t that bad. It took me about 30 - 40 minutes, the other 3 teams 45min to an hour. I’m not promoting it, but if you win the race and your leading the series, I don’t think you will hesitate to yank it. Everyone passed inspection.

This weekend we had to pull out ECU’s for Eprom inspection. Again, everyone(Top 5) passed.

Brad, or Nor Cal admin:
I’ve got a handy-dandy flywheel profile piece of sheet aluminum.
Remove the cover plate over the oil pan, insert tool and if there has been any profiling/metal removed from the radiator side it is evident when the profile tool doesn’t fit. I’ll be sending the tool out to admins soon. Carter has to get me on his super secret admin list so that I can get everyone’s adddress.

You would be a goober to remove material from the clutch side, right?

RP co-Spec E30 admin for the SE.

A visual inspection was done earlier in the year and there was a lightened flywheel identified. I think they wanted to see the flywheels, because the day before after Saturdays race, I pulled my transmission to re-clock my pressure plate to the correct balance index marks, and I think someone thought I slipped a lightened flywheel in. While I was doing the work, a couple fellow racers wondered in and seemed suspicious of what I was doing.

Anyways, the template you have is a good idea.

Wow. You should move to the SE. When we see someone working hard we wander over with tools, spares, beer, and the girlfriend’s available older sister. If someone suggested that the reason someone had chose to pull their drivetrain apart at the track was to slip in their swiss cheese flywheel we’d a laughed so hard beer would have sprayed out our nose.
