All Patton's Fault!

In July we run the North Course

I was talking to Robert ("ol’ arm bender" check the first post) Patton the other day just to discover that the first event for 2007 is the second weekend in Feb at CMP. His usual question is "Whatcha got done?" My usual answer since I wanted to drive the car for a while to get used to it a little is "nothing." Well, that "nothing" is "something" now. Yesterday the nice interior got pulled and spread all over Robert’s driveway. There was even a vulture or two circling the parts eyeballing a few things. And what is that funny look Robert gets on his face when that car stripping sort of activity is going on? After pulling the soft parts we took the car up to my racing partner’s shop (big George) and pulled a few never to be used again items. AC comp etc. So now the car is heading for the cage guy! Progress!

Hmmmm. Posted twice for some reason. Maybe this got rid of the duplicate. Must be too excited!

Mine should be race ready by May next year. You can see my progress

Jeff, I’m going to drop in at BJ’s place to pick up some stuff out of my car. I’ll let you know if the cars have been touched yet. In the mean time, call me and let’s get your suspension parts on the way. Robert (I’m not pushing too hard, yet, but February is just around the bend) Patton

#26

Jeff, I stopped in to steal your fog lights, but was unsuccessful. There is good news, BJ was cutting floor support squares and was getting stsrted on the cage in my car. I’ll keep you posted on his progress. Regards, Robert ( why do I need three cars? ) Patton

#27

Could it be because you would like to race both days at Rockingham?

#28

Good news Robert. Thanks for the update. And why couldn’t you score the fog lights? You didn’t have a note from me or something? And BJ wouldn’t let you have them? Good for him! And being a newbee, what is the story about Rockingham? A car killer, huh?

Jeff, Not for most, but it was for me, I think we all spun at least once. Found the sand pit the second day on the second lap axle deep and tore off the spoiler. The track is short and crowded with all of the field in place…plus the asphalt isn’t well maintained with Nascar leaving the circuit. I would love to see other tracks selected for next year instead of racing there three times. Road racing on high bank ovals is just silly IMO.

Steve,

I agree about the oval/road course deal. I raced my former IMSA RS car at Atlanta Motor Speedway a couple of times and it wasn’t the most fun I ever had. I would sort of rather have an "oops" lead to a something a little less dramatic than finding concrete at every inch around the oval and infield. I was lucky to "oops" in the chicane in NASCAR turn 3 as the track is now configured. I needed a "come-a-long" to get my driving suit off! Robert would have had a good laugh.

The cage is in! Picked up the car yesterday and it looked great. I got home from work today to find 2 boxes of goodies on the front porch too. Hows that for progress, Robert (watcha got done) Patton? And from what I hear, you better get moving on the Tank.
Jeff

I’m glad this thread gets resurrected, we need to keep it on top so we can blame Patton when we run out of money. Some progress is being made on my end too and I think I may paint the car orange and black (Alpina-style) to match our 2002.

#33

The car looks great all hunkered down on its suspension! Robert, thanks for all the gentle urging to get the ball rolling on the project. Geo and I just have a few things left to do and we’ll be ready enough for Feb. Will you be my "Daddy" at the school?
Jeff

#34

Jeff, I’ll teach you everything I know. At CMP that it should take a little less than two-minutes. Glad to hear that the car is close to being race-ready. Let me know if I can help you. Regards, Robert Patton

#35

And we’ve got new racers to be concerned with in the Southeast…

You said that somewhere else on this forum. The others don’t drive like I do. Give them a little slack.
:silly:

I drove the car home from Geo’s today grinning the whole way. Still needs an alignment. Turns in great with 3" of tow out!

Counting the days to CMP!

CMP was a blast! Catching up with Patton on the cool down lap after the Sunday enduro (the only way I could) and exchanging thumbs up with him was priceless!
