A moment of silence....

For my old 1991 318is!!! Sold it 2-3 years ago. It is what I first did track days with

It was sitting at an intersection waiting for a flatbed, airbag deployed, front and rear end smashed.

Definetly mine…had my wheels, Euro grills, CCA stickers…It was a good little car.

So hope my 87 I just sold is faring better at VIR right now…

it did great. I managed to keep it in one piece. I had a really good time, and my first race was interesting since it was in the snow. I definately learned alot in the comp school, and i’m looking forward to racing more and more.

Ric,

I can definitely say that the former Art Car is in good hands – Mike was exemplary during the comp school (where both of us learned the hard way that the early E30 gas tank sucks and that 40 minutes on track, at speed, burns a lot of gasoline).

Why does the gas tank suck?

a poorly designed pick up i believe! I had no idea how much gas was in the car throughout the weekend.

While this is a problem in certain situations, we’ve found that everyone must run their fuel level high enough in the Spec E30 sprint races to make weight, and that it’s not a problem for the older cars.

The tank is designed as a "saddle" shape and there is a small connector tube between the 2 sides. The fuel gets low and the pickup is out of the fuel in the hard righ handers. once you get below 1/2 tank you will notice this. It will be bad at shenandoah circuit coming out of the turn that heads up the hill toward the bridge.

Well, the lesson I learned is that you shouldn’t let the tank get below 1/2 and that one 5gal jug won’t cut it in the course of the day.

Sorry, Ric, didn’t mean to hijack your thread… perhaps we should hold a wake for the dearly departed? :ermm:
