2nd DME of the year..........

#1

Anyone have problems with the DME going bad?

1st DME is cutting the ignition when hitting curbing or rumble strips. Pretty annoying when it happens on corner exit, and unsafe. So then i put in the spare DME and ran great for about 5 races.

2nd DME is strange, went to warm the car up and it shut off after about 5 min of idle. Car would not idle on its own. Took it out for a drive and felt ok. Put the spare/spare DME in and the idle was instantly ok and ran great.

The mounting of the DME is mounted on the roll cage on the dash bar. Anyone else having problems with the DME, or did i just have 2 about to crap out. Down the the last one in the spares box.

Oh yea key is always out and not on when turning the cutoff switch power on or off.

Thanks,

The first DME probably has a failed solder joint, which is fixable by reflowing the solder on the joint. While it could be anywhere on the board, the connector would be a likely candidate.

The second DME is a little harder to diagnose, but it sounds like it has a problem when it tries to to go into closed loop mode. That in turn suggests a problem with the AFM, temp, or O2 sensor inputs or with the ICV output. I’ve seen other DME’s do this and the only fix is a different DME.

Is the mounting an issue? Are there rubber isolators in the stock mounting location? I would imagine the roll cage would be a pretty unforgiving place to mount the computer.

The first DME sounds like it could have been/might be a loose fuel pump relay? Is yours zip-tied in?

The stock mounting of the DME is pretty rigid and I doubt that increasing the rigidity of the mount would be a factor unless there were other problems in the DME.

Could also be a problem with the kill switch…
