2008 Nationals Reports

#1

Too lazy to hunt for the schedule…
Racers, any reports?
DeVinney, does the car run okay?
Pantas, does the new engine give you some straightaway talent?
Herrington and Ed Davidson, what is the report from the over 50/experienced race group?
Weather forecast?

Regards, Robert Patton

Well, kind of stinks to be in group J. Good news, they can sleep late in the morning.

I hope they enjoy today’s weather.

Looks like Pantas needs even more HP.

Skeen needs to find the go pedal, and apparently having the Championships at a local track pays dividends.

Think they’d move it to Roebling ever?

We’ll see what happens when the track gets wet!

#5

Patton, Are you going to do the pool like last year. If so I may stick with my same picks as last year…

Jim, don’t get your hopes up. Road Atlanta is your “local” track right? Your track record (pun intended) doesn’t indicate you would be getting paid… At least for your race car driving abilities. Oh, whoops, this isn’t a smack talk thread.

Don’t worry, Skeen was just scrubbing in tires when you checked it out and went into panic mode.

Thank you for asking - and thanks for all the help you have given Fowler and the OPM boys. The car came off the truck pretty good.

Thanks to Jon Allen and Andrew Zimmerman’s advice, I softened up the rear bar and went from 14th in the first session to 6th in the 2nd. The last session hasn’t posted yet.

Lemme just say… These cars are a freaking blast to drive!!

The car ran flawlessly on test day, but today I battled a problem where the car would cut out on hard left handers, coast for a few seconds, then refire. I still had power (lights on dash), but it was like someone turned off the light switch. Then back on. We think it may have been junk in the fuel filter. We replaced the filter and checked the pump before the last practice session and it was problem free, so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I think it is supposed to rain, so tomorrow could be interesting!!

PS - We had a Southeast region drivers meeting at Wal-Mart. Party animals.

Holy crap…I ran a 44.5 this afternoon? I was scrubbing rain tires and bedding brakes!

Whoa! Looks like its going to be a tight battle between the 2 Scott Lears. They both spell their names the exact same and turned the exact same lap time. Freakin’ crazy.

#11

My money is still on Skeen rain or shine. I won’t get any faster everyone else will though. If it rains which is like 90% for tomorrow I’m definitely going backwards, just have to try and limit the damage and hope it is dry Sunday.

#12

Good luck to all this weekend!!! Looks like there could be some gambling with weather…

I wonder what, if anything, will be teched this year???

#13

Friday warm up. Looked like it might be raining?

I saw Cobetto with a 2:12 something
and Skeen with a 2:13

Johnny Allen maybe 3rd? I just caught it before the screen changed.

past session results can be seen here so you don’t have to deal with the screen updating. Much slower times today!

The live NASA feed was not so good in my part of the universe.

Hey computer geeks, anywhere that a dinosaur can go to get inter web results for the race?

Huh? Says this race was only 4 laps long on mylaps… I’d be curious to hear the deal-e-o.

#20

Quite a day. Rain pretty much the whole time.

In the morning warm up, Cobetto ran a 2:12 and I did a 2:13 with one clear lap. I knew there was more, but wasn’t sure how much Cobetto had left.

In quali, I ran a 2:08 to Cobetto’s 2:10, placing me first on the grid. Our session was cut a little bit short because of several cars off track at China Beach.

The race was kind of ugly. If you know Mid-Ohio, you know there is a sealer on line throughout all the corners. These are slick as ice in the wet. With the right-left-right corner combo at the end of the back straight, I knew it would be hard for everyone to run the desired “outside” line. Cobetto forced me to the middle of the track on the start, putting me on the slick sealer. I slid through it, to the middle of the track where Cobetto touched my LR and we both went off track.

Long story short, I just brought it home to fight another day, making up a couple positions to finish 4th. There were lots of cars off and I think we ended early because things were already behind schedule. The damage is relatively minor and the alignment still looks reasonable, so it’s time to put this behind us and get some results.

This is game on because I’m tired of the way some people are racing.
