2007 CCR posted

The 2007 CCR is posted. Not too many changes. A head and neck restraint is not yet mandated, but, by July 1, you must have side impact protection via a seat with large head-height side bolsters or a right side net with quick release.
Also, cars getting logbooks after Jan 1 have to have at least two door bars, and all cars must have them by 2011 (whoa, way to push the safety envelop there, NASA)

There are some clarifications on behavior when a double-yellow is displayed and taken down.

On the instructing-at-HPDEs front, I was disappointed that they clarified that a car does NOT need comparable restraints for the instructor as well as the driver (i.e. driver can have a harness and instructor left with stock belts). However, my Reg Dir and Chief Instructor has stated that he will back any instructor that doesn’t want to ride in a car like that.

cheers,
bruce

Thanks for posting.

When should we expect 2007 Spec E30 Regulations to be available?
Or are they going to stay as is?

Is there any way to install an interior net without having a dash bar? If not, I guess I know what my mid-season project is going to be… :frowning:

Dan,

When Chris Schimmel had my dash out, I had him weld an eye bolt to the "box beam" sheat metal at the base of the windshield. This will provide a forward mounting point for the right net. Depending upon how big of a hole you would be willing to hack in the dash, this may be possible as a retrofit wihout a dash bar.

I am going to do what Sasha stated since my dash is out. A lot of BMW CR racers went through this recently so a post at bimmerforums may turn up some other non-dash removal suggestions.

Does the Racetech Seat that K Childress has in his car (photos in GMPer’s project thread) qualify for this head restraint requirement.

I don’t plan to be taking my dash out anyime soon.

I would say yes, but you know what you paid for the opinion.

Don,
I would think that my seat complies with the new requirement. I’ll find out for sure next season, but don’t plan on putting in a center net in the meantime.
