Which Wheels?

#1

I’m trying to decide on some wheels for my car that I just picked up Thursday. I had Team Dynamics Pro Race 2 in mind, but I’ve been looking at D-Force wheels too. I haven’t heard anything about them since they announced them. 949 Racing’s wheels look interesting, but same thing, I haven’t heard any hand’s on advice. What wheels are you running? If you’ve got any personal advice or recommendations, don’t hesitate to say so

This may have been answered already, but I would recommend the Konig Rewinds. They are 13.5 lbs each, so spec legal (in the 15x7 size). They are dirt cheap (as in in-expensive) so if you bend one you won’t be out an arm & a leg, and when you get into racing Konig also has a wheel program for spec e30 racers.

Konig info here:

you don’t have to be a racer to get the NASA discount, just a NASA member. I have a set of these wheels, and love them. There was a thread just a couple of weeks ago about how they are holding up, and everyone seemed pleased.

Rewinds at 20mm offset are 15.5 lbs. Additional weight comes from having to extend out the center hub.

They are $70 plus shipping under the NASA program and you just have to be NASA member.

For the money, I think they are great.

I have the TD 1.2s and love them - they are very durable and look good. I waited months for the D-Force, last discussion with BW was that they were on the boat. At pre-order of $105 and the design they would be nice to have. However, if I was doing it over again tomorrow, I would go Konig - can’t touch 70 bones and guys have been happy with the availability and performance.

How do you order the Konigs? I looked on the NASA MA site and it showed the $55 per wheel price, but no ordering info.

Thanks.

I just checked out the NASA MA site and saw the $55 per wheel price too. Sounds like a great deal. Can you let me know if you’re able to get them at that price, how much shipping is, and whether they have centering rings in stock? Thanks.

I think (or at least I paid) $70 per wheel for 15x7 ET20’s. Got them in less than a week. Call Scott Wiess a konig, or email the address on the .pdf application.

I’m confused. I thought that for two identical wheels (except for offset) a lower positive offset number means the wheel is thicker at the hub, therefore heavier.:S So an ET10 has a thicker “hub” than an ET20, right? And a lower positive offset number means the wheel “sticks out” further, right?

Yes on both accounts. ET10 wheel would weigh more than ET20 and will stick out more than ET20.

Konig ET40 weighs about 14.5 lbs. ET20 weighs 15.5lbs

The Konig program pdf is here.

Here’s what I.E.'s website says (where I bought my rims)…

These 15 x 7 wheels have a 20mm offset (4.75" back space) and 4 on 100mm bolt pattern. These are made especially for the E30 but also work on the 2002 with a small spacer. They are the vintage Minilite style. Plus the back side has a nice deep hub so they will clear all the brake calipers including Brembo and Wilwood. They weigh about 13.5lb each. Center cap is included. Available in Silver only. Priced as a set of 4 but can also be purchased individually.

So, who’s right? Has anyone actually weighed them?

Me.

Stamping on the wheel says 6.9kg(15.2 lbs)but the actual weight comes in around 15.5 lbs.

13.5 lbs would be close to the ET40 although I suspect the actual weight would be over 14 lbs.

I would think that even if you needed additional weight or ballast on my car, the last place I’d want to put it is in the wheels.
