Hey I’m Rob from Bimmerworld.
I’m actually building my own Spec E30 car. Send me an email rob@bimmerworld.com and I’ll try and help you out. We’ve got some cool new spec parts coming in that should really improve the cars.
PS. Patton allready called me crazy for building a 4 cylinder car. :woohoo: hehe.
Shox.com has some good prices on shocks, sways, and springs. I have delt with them in the past and had a good experience with them.
Shopping around to find the "best" price is fine. However I’ll say this. The guys at Bimmerworld are hardcore racers and have been behind our series from the beginning.
In my humble opinion loyalty counts for alot more than the pocket change you might save by going to a mega supplier.

I agree with Brain. Support those suppliers that support us . Chris at http://www.bimmerparts.com/index.html
is a NASA Mid-Atlantic sponsor and another good resource for parts. My personal experience was good pricing and quick shipping/excellent service.
BTW, Carter if you read this, does the "Lollipop" bushing James sell, pass muster for spec E30?

The Lollipop one from Treehouse doesn’t since the rule says that bushing material can be changed not the housing.
This was discussed on the old forum…those sure are nice though!!!

No doubt, they are nice. However, they came to our attention after the Rules were set and one thing our drivers like…consistent rules. After building my first car I found a few items that I really liked. However, we’re staying true to the Spec E30 mission.

Of course, that stick-to-it-ness is why it works so well. It is just a great application for a job everyone is going to do anyway and that bushing install is sort of a pain to get it pressed in while alaigned correctly.

Here it is again with some updates. I’ve added some formatting to subtotal then total part shipping and labor. The last column will not count the item unless you put a 1 in the column prior. See the treehouseracing cab line.

I can’t officially endorse it but at a glance, I don’t see anything that’s out of order.

since I cannot do a part number search on the bimmerworld site, what would be the best way to price the stuff?

I’ve done lots of looking, and there’s honestly not much point in doing anything other than filling up your Bimmerwolrd shopping cart. Bimmerworld has great prices and like everyone says, worthwhile expertise (Rob at BW, who’s building his own SpecE30, usually answers my e-mails within an hour). The only area where I’ve found they cannot help me is with sways, because I’ve heard great things about the Suspension Techniques set-up and Bimmerworld doesn’t carry them. Flying Brick Performance has the ST set for $285, which is a great price.
Have fun shopping!
Sasha
I bought all of my performance and maintenance parts from 3 different vendors: BimmerWorld, PerformancePartsStore.com, and Ireland Engineering. Between the 3 I spent about $2200.
It is much easier to just get it all from BimmerWorld. You might pay a couple dollars more but their knowledge and support is worth it.
I totally believe in supporting the sponsors.
It would just be very nice to have either a page for spec e30, or tag the parts so a seach for spec e30 gives me the list.
So I would know What I can buy that is legal, What they think I should buy, and be quite confident that I was ordering the correct part numbers.
Getting it from one source is sort of like getting that really big box at christmas, it always has the coolest stuff in it.
Just a page with everything listed and the little check boxes and maybe even sectioned by car sub-system
bushings
shocks springs
sways
engine
clutch
brakes
wheels
stuff I don’t know about.
That way I can learn about the parts prior to buying them, nothing I hate more than tearing into a suspension and realizing all the "while your in their stuff" and then having to either stop and order the parts, or putting it all together knowing I am going to have to take it all apart again and put in some $10 bushing.
I know changing web pages can be a HUGE pita, but the easiest for the consumer solution drives the higher Average Order Size.

This is a really good idea that I think I’ll implement at Flying Brick Performance. Might take a few days to get this up and running, but it will simplify what is already a difficult task for everyone. Wish I could add the wheels section, but we don’t have those yet. However, we have everything else.

cool man, I will be very interested in checking that out.
The concept of "kitting" web page layout/product offering comes from day job, and is an integral part of my e-commerce strategy. I would be very interesting in seeing how it works for you.
ps the concept is non-proprietary, we aint got no rights to it, and we are in a business that is such a specialty niche, we really have to do some creative things to drive sales.
pps and I am NOT a consultant, just wanted to share in an open source sort of way.
RRT has a section organized by race series as well, and Spec E30 is one of them. However, they include a number of items that are not legal, and an expensive mistake if someone is mislead into buying them - e.g. alum. control arms.
cheers,
bruce
Bruce is correct.
"But the supplier/shop owner/car builder said it was ok." is not going to make an illegal part, legal.
Recently, a new driver made a small change to his car and then asked if it was legal. My response was simple…
"Where in the Spec E30 Rules does it say that is allowed?"

To some extent, that’s our strategy too, taken to a bit of an extreme. Our whole store is E30 specific but we didn’t have a section specific to SpecE30 until now.
