Where/How to Install Harnesses

#1

I am going to take a steel plate and bolt it down with the four bolts that previously held the stock seat in. I will then drill and install the seat bracket for my seat on that steel plate. For the anti-submarine belt, I will just drill a hole in my steel plate and bolt it down. The shoulder belts will affix to the rear cage tube.

Where do I bolt the side belts to? On most cars I am used to, the manufacturer’s stock seatbelt low hole works well for the harnesses. My 87IS does not have any holes, therefore I am guessing the belts were actually on the seat. Where do I mount my side belts to? Any pictures would also be helpful. Thanks.

Here’s the schroth instructions. http://www.schrothracing.com/sdocs/2009_Competition_Instructions.pdf

Put a bolt thru the floor behind your left hip, and thru the tunnel wall behind your right hip. 3" dia., reasonably thick washers or similar plates of steel behind the sheetmetal.

Note how far back the anti-sub belt is supposed to go. It anchors under your tailbone.

I am not sure you can mount the sub belt to the same plate that you mount the seat. you would end up using the same mounting points for the seat and the belt. I may be way off but i always thought that they had to be separate. People used to like to mount the lap belt under the same rear bolts holding the seat down and this was a big discussion quite a few years back. It may have just been BMWCCR or SCCA, I don’t remember. I have not looked for this topic in the CCR.

Just something to keep in mind and may want to get clarified.
