Wheels

#1

What wheels are you guys running?

I have the 14" Baskets on my ‘is’ and am pondering upgrading to 15s. I really don’t want to deal with spacers, but I like the 50 series tire with the 15" wheel.

I like the look of the Kosei 6 spoke design. I have seen E30s with them or similar wheels, and they look very tough. Staying with the 14s will be cheaper, but I don’t want to buy Toyos for the 14s when I may upgrade to the 15s.

14s or 15s???

Buy the 14’s and use them once and sell them to me for $20 each. I decided to go this first year on the 14" bottle caps and save my wheel money for another set of tires (or whatever). Bottle caps are cheap, I got shaved and rain tires with the savings and it’s first season for us anyway!

The Team Dynamics Pro race (1.2 or 2.0) wheels are very popular in 15x7, especially since Bimmerworld carries them in the correct offset for the E30.

They’re light (13lbs) and strong (I’ve been hit directly on the wheels twice – a Miata and a Legends car – and both wheels are still true and straight).

Bottlecaps are cheap, but they’re (comparatively) heavy – and it’s all unsprung weight – and more than likely, less than straight.

Go with the Team Dynamics 15X7 from Bimmerworld. They are hub centric, light weight and strong as all get out.

Thanks for the plug guys.

PR1.2’s sell very quickly for us. If you need them for the upcoming season backorder them now. We’ll have more in a few weeks or so. We sold out of them last time in 4-5 days.

PR2’s are the 5 spoke version and aren’t so popular but are just as good. I have them in stock now in VA and at the distributor in Cali for shipping now.

Both models are 13-14 pounds.

Elephant Motorsports will also be offering the Kazera KZM in 15x7 for $119 with I believe 10% off initially (ask Jack to be sure www.elephantmotorsports.com)

Ireland is also now selling a minilite/panasport lookalike in 15x7 et20

cool in an old-school way.

I’ve got two sets of bottlecaps to use and am resisting the urge to buy new ones this first year … don’t tempt me!

Come on Bruce - run up the AmEx like the rest of us!

Yea, my budget is running VERY tight as we speak.

I hope it gets easier after the car is somewhat built.

I’m keepin an eye out for used, but I’ll probably go with the 14s for now.

+1 for rock’n the bottlecaps   :frowning:

I ordered a set of these from someone else. Going retro I guess… Wonder who is making the ones Ireland is selling as they quote "about 13.5lbs." but I the set I bought with the identical design, width and offset weigh 15 each. I paid significantly less as well. If anyone else buys a set, it would be cool to weigh them and see what they actually weigh.

#11

yeah, I’m curious also. I thought they looked like another vendor’s as well and I recall those stated 15lbs. Ireland didn’t put that weight onto their site until I sent them an email asking how much they weighed…

bruce

bringing this thread back from the dead a little bit. Im just wondering if the konig Imagine wheels are spec legal. I see they are 20mm offset and 4x100mm the hub is wrong but can get rings for that. Are these wheels heavier than others?? should I stick with the racing dynamics 1.2 wheel??

#15

from some limited searching, it appears to be a Cast wheel so it probably has no problem being heavy enough to be legal (and probably too heavy …). You should double check the weight though.

The TD 1.2s are hard to beat - we have 2 sets and a set of 2.0s. They can take a beating as well.

I thought the IE minilite wheels were just rebadged Konig rewinds. IF you were getting them, get them through NASA they were like $320 shipped, you might have to wait if they’re on B/O, but for the price you can’t really beat them.
