What's the best route from I-20W to I-85N?

#1

I’m drviving my 01 996TT home from TX back to NC on Wed-Thurs of this week. I will be coming in on I-20 from the west and want to go back I-85 to Charlotte.

What is the best route thru/around Atlanta? Should I take I-285N around to I-85 or I-20 to I-85 through downtown?

Any ideas on construction delays and what times of day is safe (if there is such) to make it through downtown. Not sure exactly when I would be coming through.

Thanks for the feedback.

Best route is definitely I-20 to I-85N - no reason to go out of the way on 285.

If you want to avoid traffic it’s best to pass through downtown between 10am and 2pm or any time after 7pm. Traffic can be a little bit heavy on the connector at lunch time, but should not be stop and go unless there’s an accident or construction.

You can use this site to check on construction and any other traffic delays: http://georgia-navigator.com/

The only sure way to avoid an “Atlanta parking lot” is via Omaha…

thanks for the good info guys. I rolled thru downtown around 3:00 with no problems. Man I’ve never seen so many speed traps sitting on I-20 west of Atlanta. I think I went thru Mississippi,LA and AL without seeing a single speed trap and then wham! Welcome to GA!

Long drive from Dallas but car ran flawless and oh is it strong. Car just pulls and pulls without even a downshift. Guy had some nice modifications with Bilstein PSS9’s and a FVD Brombacher ECU Flash good for another 80HP or so. Here’s a link to the photos the guy had posted. http://www.flickr.com/photos/15956625@N00/sets/72157623263941246/

Car only has 27k miles and guy was a car nut and PCA instructor. His replacement was a beautiful 08 GT3 in all white.

I sold my 02 C4S to a guy in Miami.

Damon, you are right the price of these has really come down. Mine had an original window sticker of $135K, including a ridiculous $9k worth of carbon fiber interior bling! The engine on the TT is supposed to be pretty much bullet-proof if taken care of and this guy had all the maintenance records from original dealer as well as the well known tuner RUF from Dallas. He had replaced the problematic 2nd gear/syncro with the all steel GT2 version and put in new clutch. It should be good to go.

Thanks again for the routing info as it worked out great.

See you guys soon. Now if I could just get it out in the snow and play!
