Those of you that aren’t going to Nationals, what should we do in Sep?
Here’s one possibility. BMWCCA CR has a race at RA, 7-9Sep. $400 for 3 days of racing.

I’m running the darn thing, and yes it would be nice to have some SE30s to run with! Includes a 90-minute enduro and yes, is quite a bit of track time.
Come on out and run with us!
People should reconsider and go to nationals.
Only Dad and I going to nationals from the SE?
Come on guys!
I’ll be at the CCA event doing the instruction thing and relaxing…no worries, who cares if the car doesn’t run.
Otherwise, it will be great having 10 weekends to not have any pressing race car things to do. Might even wash the 241 or weld on a new back-half to the 911.

Come on, just buck up and go to nationals! I owe you some drinks. Can’t drive down to the SE for that. I’ll buy enough food to keep you fed at all times.
Guys, if you can’t go to Nationals, you should come out to RA with Peachtree/BMW CCA Sep 7-9.
3 days of racing for $400 and it neatly fills in the 10-week gap between the August RA and October AMP NASA-SE races.
Jim Levie and I are signed up and would love to have some of you guys to run against!
so i have a 2012 nasa tech… is this enough or not?
i may need a fire system instead of just extinguiaher?
window net?
anything else?

Need a BMWCCA Comp license. It takes a while to convert your NASA Comp license into a BMWCCA CR Novice ticket. Contact BMWCCA and talk to them about exactly what you have to send them.
Be emotionally prepared to get a Medical. Take both NASA and BMWCCA forms to doc so not only do you end up with a CR medical but you also get your NASA medical updated.
Need fire suppression system. Window net and HANs have expiration dates.
“HANs have expiration dates.” Negatory, Ranger. If it has an FIA sticker, there is no exp. date. CB
Has this changed? Last I heard was if it ONLY had an FIA sticker, which was rare and intended ONLY for folks visiting from out of the country ( ) then it would be allowed. Otherwise if it had an SFI sticker at all (even with an FIA sticker) then it needed to be recertified.

Read the whole thread if you want more background detail.
Granted, this was a few months ago, but it made quite an impression at the time.
Straight from the 2012 CCA rules, page 26, all HANS-type devices must receive attention every 5 years, however the specifics vary depending on whether it is FIA or SFI certified.
Any HANS device must have a Silver and Blue SFI 38.1 Sticker and/or a Silver and Black FIA 8858-2002 sticker. The SFI sticker is punched with month and year.
Head and Neck Restraint Devices which only carry a Black FIA 8858-2002 sticker (no SFI sticker) must have the tethers replaced five (5) years after the date of manufacturer.
Head and Neck Restraint Devices which are certified to SFI Spec. 38.1 must be inspected and recertified every five (5) years, effective January 1, 2012. For BMW CCA CR, the enforcement date will be extended ninety (90) days and will commence April 1, 2012. The device must be sent back to the Original Manufacturer for inspection after five (5) years from the date of manufacture punched out on the label. When a device is determined by the original manufacturer to be acceptable for continued use, a new SFI 38.1 conformance label marked with the inspection date will be affixed and the device will be valid for use for another five (5) years from that date.

As for other matters, for 2012 SpecE30 is now recognized as a national class (and is no longer a guest class). There had previously been some accommodations in the guest class rules that no longer exist:
[ul]
[li]Helmet must be 2005 or 2010[/li]
[li]I believe fire systems, and not just a bottle, are required[/li]
[li]I think center nets are now required [/li]
[li]window and center nets expire every 2 years (and must have SFI 37.1 labels [/li]
[li]CCA sponsor decals are required (these are available free at event by tech steward. As a practical matter, you can’t get on track without the Tire Rack windshield banner; the others they don’t seem to sweat quite as much.[/li]
[li]All personal safety gear (gloves, socks, suit, shoes) must meet CCA requirements.[/li]
[/ul]
I received an email from an individual who thought there existed a ‘track-side’ CCA race license procedure, but I’m quite sure that is not true. Anyone who wants to race CCA with a SpecE30 car must have a valid CCA membership and CCA race license. A current NASA race license is acceptable as evidence to obtain a CCA provisional (which is all you need) – Contact Tricia Williams in the BMW CCA National Office to get the particulars, but don’t delay, there is a rush job fee which will apply if you wait too long
Thanks, Chuck… good info. My brother and i were hoping to run with cca sometime thia year, but now it is looking doubtful. Looks like our next time on track will be at amp.
I spoke to Tricia Williams in the CCA licensing office today and got the scoop. I may have missed a memo communicating the one-time guest racer policy. Here’s the basics:

A racer who holds a current race license from a recognized organization (e.g. NASA, SCCA), but NOT ChumpCar or LeMons, and who has never possessed a BMW CCA race license in the past, is eligible for a one-time-use guest pass to participate in a CCA Club Race.

The race car must have a current logbook and tech inspection from their respective organization.

The prospective racer must belong (and show proof) to the BMW CCA. If they don’t, they may fill out an application and join on the spot, at the current price of membership.

They will fill out the needed forms (medical, event-tech, and one-time race registration) at the track.

They must meet all of our minimum standards for vehicle and personal safety

Note that advance registration on the CCA website is not possible in this situation, because the prospective racer won’t have a website login.

After this guest weekend, if the racer wishes to race again with CCA, they must follow the normal licensing process.

There is no cost (other than the CCA membership if applicable) for the guest racer eligibility
Hmmm. Now I might be able to make it. So I don’t have to actually go to the doctor for the medical, just fill out the forms at the track.
This should be pretty close to final.
