I replaced my dash and all gauges with a race dash complete with all aftermarket gauges. There were 3 silver boxes in all buried under the dash. The ECU on the passenger side and a important looking box with lots of wires on the extreme drivers side, but the one that has me perplexed is the small silver box that has about 10 wires coming out of it and weights almost nothing. Seriously, this this could be mailed with a 1st class postage stamp. It says VDO on it, so I’m assuming that it has something to do with the old instrument cluster that my car no longer has, so is it safe to just cut the wires and toss it?
