I’ve coordinated space for 18 cars from Atlanta to Laguna Seca and back.
10 car rig for $1700/car
8 car rig for $1750/car.
These are open trailers. Jeff Retey is going to look into an enclosed trailer option. Jeff also mentioned attempting to use a car space for gear. That is to say, pay a higher price and put 7 cars on the 8 car trailer. Then somehow fill up the unused space with tires, tools, spares, etc. Personally, I’m not quite sure how this would be done. Do car carriers have a space with a flat deck instead of runners, where we could stack/strap a bunch of gear?
My vision was to pack the car with what gear I could, and then have the tire vender for the event bring tires for me. The car would come wearing old tires and use them for the practice day. Then I’d have the tire vender mount the new tires for the 2 days of racing.
We’d have to come to some agreement on how to handle $$ and no-shows. I feel strongly that we can’t book a truck and then have people back out. Those guys still on that truck would be faced with much higher expenses or they’d also have to back out. I think that we should come to an early agreement as commitments. That is to say, lets discuss and vote on how we want commitments to work. Then lets put that in cement so there’s no ambiguiety and for good or ill, we all live with it.
I’d like to see some suggestions on how we do committment and $$. Off the top of my head, I’m not coming up with too many workable solutions that we might discuss the merits and downsides of each.
Scott’s commitment recommendation: $1750 buys you a space. First come first served. Once you have paid, you are committed and there’s no refund. If you back out and get someone else to take your space, get your $$ from him. If there is not enough cars to fill your truck, and therefore it does not make the trip, you would of course get a refund.
My guess as to how this is gonna go down. I think that we’re going to have a bunch of early interest so it will look like we’re going to fill the 10car rig. But in the end we won’t get 10 checks so we’ll end up filling only the 8 car rig. I don’t see much chance of us filling both rigs.
