Watkins Glen Video?

#1

Hey there NE folks!
Next month John and I are making the haul from FL up to New York to take our first shot at Watkins Glen for the BMW CCA O’fest. I was wondering if any of you guys have video from the Glen in your SE30s that you 'd be willing to share. I want to at least make an attempt to familiarize myself with the track before we show up (although I know that reviewing video can only help so much).

Thanks in advance!

I’ve got some footage from last year, but I never put it on my computer/online. I’ll try to upload it some time this week for you guys.

Since you guys are making such a long haul, you should just extend your vacation a bit and race with NASA there the following weekend B)

Trackpedia has a lot of good information and a couple of videos:

When I visited WGI in June, I got a ride from a PCA instructor.

Here is the video and the password is ‘wgi’.

The track looked like a fun track but definitely no room for any error. T9 is an interesting off camber turn. T10 is fast full speed turn which leads to the infamous T11 with a suck-in tire wall.

Lot of patch work in turns which are bumpy. Lot of elevation changes.

The video does not convey the combinational g-force of the turn plus the elevation compression.

A fun track - wish it didn’t have walls so close.

I’ve got some from racing with NASA-NE last weekend, it is an AWESOME track! I am hoping to post it online later today. It is no different than Road Atlanta as far as speed and fun! I am looking forward to going back again next year!

What kind of lap times are SpecE30s running at WGI? Next season I’m going to make the jump to racing from DEs and I’d like to know if I’ll even be driving on the same lap as everyone else.

I am a mid-packer SpecE30 driver - 2:24.635

For my first trip out to WG in September, I ran a 2:31 in practice. I won’t bother with race times because after the practice session everything else was wet, fog or driving rain…

I’m not sure what pack that puts me in, but I did manage to at least stay on the lead lap thanks to the long track. I probably need to be less conservative next time… (This was with BMW CCA at O’fest - group 2 cars: JP/JS/KP/SpecE36/HS/EM).
