water temperature sensor placement

#1

I want to add in a water temperature gauge. Where would be the best placement for the sensor? Thanks,

Depends on the size of the sensor. 1/8NPT you can put drill and tap a port in the thermostat cluster. 1/4NPT maybe you could. 3/8NPT or 1/2NPT you’ll need to put it inline with a hose. I tried to buy one, but couln’t find one that would work. Ultimately I had a shop make one with a piece of Al pipe and an aluminum weldable 1/2NPT bung.

Everything in the sensor world is a lot easier with 1/8NPT sensors.

i put mine where the block drain plug goes.

You can drill and tap an early thermostat housing, or replace the housing with a current production part. The current production part has four tapped holes.

I used one of the inline adapters.

Worked just fine and was super easy to install.

Thank you for your replys. It is a 1/8 NPT sensor. Looks like there are a lot of options. Drilling and tapping may be the easiest answer. thanks again

I have a spare thermostat cluster that you can have, just give me the sensors back. I just now remembered the hole saw I was supposed to drop by your office this morning. I’ll try to do better tomorrow.
