What is a "Super Competition School"? It looks like one is being held on Friday.
What is a "Super Competition School"? It looks like one is being held on Friday.
Supercomp is the school NASA MA runs for those wanting to get their competition license. It consists of classroom sessions and track sessions with drills. A few different practice starts, a practice race, etc. Several here have attended, and I think the feedback is positive. You must be approved in advance by Chris Cobetto to attend and your car and gear must pass race tech
Wasn’t there a good writeup done on it in GRM sometime back in 2006? Anyone recall which issue?
I passed the BMW CCA school in December of 2006 and therefore didn’t need to take the NASA version. However everything I heard about the NASA version was so positive - I took it anyway. Right answer!
I took the NASA Super Comp school this February and loved it! There is plenty of track time, fun exercises (leapfrog passing, two wide laps running inside first and outside second for me, and practice starts). There is a panel of experienced racers (all champions) who will give you the straight answers to any question you ask. All-in-all, the school lived up to the advance things I heard - the best educational driving experience I’ve ever had. I strongly recomend it!

HIGHLY recommend the comp school. I took it in 2003 at the same time as Dave Herrington, and it was some of the most fun I’ve ever had on track.

Don’t forget the new head restraint rule will be in effect for this event.Look in the CCR for the specifics.
Sean:
Thanks for the note on the new restraint rule.
I know you’re not the Tech Official but I’m wondering if a rollbar-type device will meet the specs. Something that bolts to the existing main hoop and is positioned to the right of the driver’s helmet, with adequate padding of course, and that is extremely resistant to right side loading. Kind of like a bolt-in support that acts like a high-dollar wrap-around seat head restraint that is just an inch or so off the driver’s helmet. And since the wrap-around restraints that are integrated into the top of the seat are not removable, and are legal, this can be semi permanently mounted to the cage.
I’ll talk to a local cage guy and to NASA National.

Carter
I can’t begin to answer this one…also talk with Grumpy…email me if you need his phone number.
What is the "new" rule?
As I am in the build process, I guess I need to add this to my checklist.
All I was aware of was rule 15.6.21:
15.6.21 Head Restraint
A head restraint must be used to help prevent whiplash. The head restraint should have
a minimum area of thirty-six (36) square inches and be padded with a non-resilient
material such as Ethafoam or Ensolite with a minimum thickness of one (1) inch. It is
recommended that padding meeting SFI specification 45.2 be used.
they’re talking about the July 1, 2007 implementation date of the head bolster/right side net requirement in 15.17.9.

Gotcha. I saw where Mike Osborne (ilateapex) had one in his car up at MidOhio last month - and I had already added that to my list.

Me too
Count me in. I will probably wait a couple of weeks to give my credit card a break.
Registering for 3 events in one week hurts a little.
