Raise your hand if you HAVEN’T had a day like that on the track.

Anyone can spin. It takes talent and perseverance to “pirouette”.

Never minimize the importance of putting the car back on the trailer in one piece.

NICE - last year at this event I managed to break 3 on all separate occasions (Friday test-n-tune,Saturday practice,Saturday qualify) . We got so good at replacing them it only took 45 minutes!!

True dat. Considering the 3 or 4 off track excursions I had on Saturday (did I mention the rear bar was too stiff?) I guess I should be pleased with my driving the mud splattered thing onto the trailer. I think I have more repairs to do to the trailer and tow vehicle than the car itself.
Thanks for the smile, Steve.

I love the “arms raised in victory” move at the end. Classic!

Thanks guys. I had a blast. Almost literally, I broke a rocker on the last lap of the last comp school session. Luckily, the Drive Gear guys helped out with getting that fixed and had the spare rocker. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Couldn’t have done it without Paul’s help.

I have some electrical issues going on that I have to chase down but the car ran great after the rocker repair.

I qualified 8th on Sat. Had a great time with Cofer on track and ran out of gas (funny how you don’t think of fuel when your gauges aren’t working) with a couple of laps to go. Overall, fun time. Got through my first turn 1 without incident and stayed out of the way for the most part. Success.

Sunday qualifying was great fun. My car handled better than I anticipated in the wet. I qualified 3rd and then we had a dry track for the race. Therefore I had a pack of people that are WAY faster than me behind me. Turns out there was nothing to worry about. Turn 1 was hectic but everyone was nice and courteous. I dropped to 5th almost immediately and stayed there for a short time. I had the bright idea to follow “the faster group” through oak tree and turned in a little early. I put 2 wheels off in the mud which turned into 4 wheels off in the mud and went on a crazy slide/spin through the infield. I’ll post video if it actually recorded. I’m sure I did something wrong because I shouldn’t have gone to the inside.

After the slip and slide, I got back on track and was able to catch up to Cofer and Boyd(?) because they were racing each other. I had great fun with them. We had some GTS cars come through hogpen as we were racing which made me a little uncomfortable but all turned out well. I think I finished 7th but I never did see the sheet after the race.

I’ll post my video for criticism. Thank you all for your help and a great weekend of fun. Electric blankets are the best!!!

towards the end you can see when the gts2 cars caught you between roller coaster and hogpen

we had a great time with everyone all weekend. Special thanks to James Clay who hosted us for lunch on Saturday. He has a killer grill setup! Personally saturday was frustrating due to a ill handling car. Sunday was much better. Summit Point in two weeks!!

Well, it was pretty cold and very wet at times but all in all a great weekend! Big thanks to James Clay and the Bimmerworld guys for sponsoring the pig for lunch on Saturday as well as coming on board as a series sponsor, big thanks to Drive-Gear for sponsoring the pig for Saturday night dinner and Sunday Lunch! Rick Mariani’s new trailer was pretty much a life saver when the VIR security guys made us put out our campfire Sunday afternoon, so thanks for putting us up Rick!

My laps tells most of the story, I started on Pole Saturday with Carter in the P2 spot, we went side by side around 1 and 2 and he had the inside for T3…I followed him around until Hunt had a slight bobble in Hog-pen and I passed him down the front straight. Podium: Grace, Hunt, Gagliardo

Sunday was wicked cold and very wet in the morning, Sunday quali was one of those “rains or drys? Sway bar or no bar?” sessions as it had rained heavily Saturday night/Sunday morning but was drying up by the time we went to grid. I went full dry and kind of regretted it but I’m not sure it would have matter as Tower humbled us all and took Pole. I started P2 and fell in line coming out of T2, passed Tower coming out of the last turn and started laying down qualifying laps. I saw one of our Spec 3 friends not too far ahead and I started focusing on reeling him in. In the process, on lap 12 of the race I set the Spec E30 Lap Record with a 2:17.883! I was pumped when I saw it come up on MyLaps on my drive home from the track. It means a little more to me also since it was previously held by Mike Skeen who has been the benchmark for years. A big thanks to Skeen, he has been a crucial resource over the years and showed me the way around VIR my rookie season.
Congrats to Jason for passing comp school and rolling up the sleeves when he broke a rocker arm rather than packing it up. Also Rob Gagliardo who set his personal best at lap time at VIR and seems to do so each time we go there. Glad Tower made it up from the SE, looking forward to racing with you again in July, bring the rest of your crew for that one.
As always, it was a blast and I’m looking forward to the next one!
