Don’t forget the vast majority of those General Discussion posts are made by South East guys. I wish I could make it to this event to give my busted transmission to Andrew. I hope to make it up to VIR next year.
VIR July 24-25th
I’m praying for rain. I’ll have fresh full treads but my shaved tires are from 2008 and not so hot.
If it rains you will get to see Mike Davidson leave your ass in the mist…I guess it has been 2 or 3 years but damn that guy is fast in the rain.

FARTBREF or anyone else want my autopower u-weld cage. I can bring it to the track. 500$ or trades
Al, you going to be there friday? I’ll be up there helping out with a utcc effort and potentially doing some coaching…you running anything this year?
Jason Tower!
Please save me a spot in the paddock. I have a flat on the trailer (again) and will be running a bit late.
Call me 252.531.0777
Yo DW

Were you guys too drunk last night to provide us a report / videos of what happened Saturday?.
Man was it hot this weekend. We had to bug out on Saturday before the race due to some car problems. The car seemed down on power as we ran 2:28-2:30’s during the practice, qualifying sessions. Last June we were running low 2:20 and car has run 2:19 before.
I found a Traqmate file from last June and looked at max speeds at a couple of sections compared with this year:
2009 vs 2010
Front Straight: 113 vs 136
Back Straight: 113 vs 119
Between T5 and start of climbing esses: 102 vs 108
I would love to get a Traqmate file of a Saturday session from someone running low 2:20’s so that I can verify my data is accurate. Can send to ksmith2@triad.rr.com.
Looks like it will be off to the shop for the car as I really don’t know what to start looking for. I figured some traqmate data points might help. Car doesn’t skip, or miss just doesn’t seem strong. Damn, worn out after only 204k miles.
Thanks.

How did you know? Woke up this morning at 9:50, had qually at 10…made it but ran crappy. We stayed in the pool till after 1 am, Travis reported that he peed in the pool 6 times. Pantis was in there also, drinking beer and I didn’t see him get out to use the bathroom either…
It was a great weekend.

Ok, I think everyone that was there will agree that the racing was pretty serious, 20 car field, very hot. I qualified 5th and finished the race 5th after a few position changes. My best MA race in a couple of years.
The Drivegear crew cooked wings Saturday night, that was GREAT. We pelted Jonny Allens car with chicken bones, there was a herd of cats on his car at 1:30 in the morning. We also shook the Hall’s RV about that time for good measure.
I don’t remember seeing much more than a tire mark on any cars, and it really was tight racing, except for Grace, who swept the weekend, and was not challenged…
Al
Thanks Drivegear for sharing the chicken and beer.
Maybe next VIR will be comp school.

Keith, I know nothing of VIR (yet) but the last few races, my car seemed sluggish and everyone was obviously pulling me on the straights. I’m running about a 200k motor as well and I thought it was just time to build a new one. Fortunately Patton told me to try swapping the air flow meter at Charlotte, which I did, and it made a huge difference for me. If you have an extra one, it might be an easy place to start.
Good suggestion. Only problem is I don’t want to go to another event not knowing if I’ve fixed the problem. I guess a dyno is the only way to diagnose a weak motor and the effects that changing parts have.

That is what I was going to suggest too.
First thing to check - Make sure your throttle is opening all the way. Mine was not the first time I showed up at the dyno. Throttle cables stretch over time.
Then check A/F ratio
Be sure throttle position switch (TPS) is working. This tells your DME “hey this guy is wide open”.
