Video Camera

#1

Hello everyone.

I finally bought a camera mount for the car and now need to get a camera. I understand that we need something with really good image stabilization and recording on a Flash drive of some sort, so there is no moving parts.

Any suggestiong? I’m sure there has been some trial and error, figured there is no need to reinvent the wheel.

Thanks,
Alex.

There are a number of threads that discuss various solutions, I’d just do some searching.

There are many perfectly serviceable solutions that use unstabilized cameras.

I bought one of the cheapest cameras I could find at Target… waited for it to go on Sale, then swooped it up. I’ve never had the slightest issue with any of the images I’ve gotten with it. I think the mount is a more important factor than the camera. A remote would be nice, but there always seems to be someone around willing to press the Rec button…

I thought maybe I need something special. I bought the regular IO camera mount, nothing crazy. Sounds like I’m going to go buy one the day after Thanksgiving, I bet the deals will be pretty good!

IO Port camera mount is money. You’d be hard pressed to find anything better.

check woot.com also. every once and a while they’ll have a killer deal on cameras.

I’m not crazy about mounting the camera between the seats and behind the driver. Anyone aware of a car with a camera mounted outside the car, such as down by the air dam?

Yeah, I’ve done it. I’ve mounted the camera against the kidney grills, the rear license plate, used a suction cup mount on the roof, etc:

Be aware of bumping if you’ve got it on the front of your car. There’s been at least one GoPro left on track at Sears Point

Haha yeah. I wouldn’t mount it there unless I could recess it far enough somewhere so that it would last.
