Very uneven rear brake pad wear

#1

Both rear outside brake pads are down to nothing. However, the inside pads have a lot left, more than 3/8 inch. Any thoughts on how to correct it?

#2

Replace the guide bushings and guide bolts.

#3

How would this be a bushings and bolts issue?

#4

Solid slide guides and appropriate anti-sieze treatment.

#5

Nothing binding, slides good, nothing dry, lubed up. I have seen one side bind but both sides look exactly the same, very uneven (and reduced life)

#6

my car does the same thing, albeit not quite as much. i simply rotate the rear pads side to side halfway thru their life and it seems to work well, by the end they’re pretty even.

What do your rear brake dust shields look like? If they were cut and bent such that they were scooping air, then the inside surface of the rotor could get more cooling then the outside rotor surface. I did some cutting and bending like that a couple yrs ago and ever since my inside rear pads last longer then the outside pads. The difference isn’t quite this pronounced tho.

I wonder if different wheel designs create different amounts of air flow past the outside surface of the rotor.
