My machinist wishes to see a valve guide before he goes about removing them. I ordered one so he can review. He was unsure if the guide had a step or shoulder so he didn’t want to risk hammering on the wrong side. I was trying to find more information about removal however. Bentley says removal at room temp with BMW special tool which I’m assuming is a piloted drift.
Install with another special tool at respective temp to correct depth.

When I reviewed the various forums some people are core drilling the old guide first then hammering out. Are they also drilling from the cam side?
