UUC Rear Sway Bar Trailing Arm Reinforcement

#1

Okay I have successfully installed the complete front sway bar and the rear bar is installed but not connected yet. I have come to the point where I need to find someone or a shop to weld on the supplied support tabs for the rear control arm. The problem is I have put the piece up there, and I don’t know exactly where it is supposed to go. The UUC directions give a picture with it all welded on, and this is what the directions say:

“With the same drill bit used for the bushing bracket mount, drill out the hole in the lower control arm to allow the hardware to be used. Align the control arm hole with the lower gusset provided and weld in place as shown.”

The issue is that with the little upward tab that keeps the stock U bracket from spinning when you tighten it down. With that in place the supplied gusset doesn’t sit flush with the OEM tab and the holes don’t line up. Has anyone ever installed a UUC rear bar? I am thinking that if I cut off that little tab then the gusset will sit flush on the OEM tab and the holes will line up. Then I can put a bolt through them and tighten it down so the gusset won’t move when it gets welded on.

Did you try calling UUC?

Nope. After reading the vague instructions I wasn’t counting on them being much help. I was hoping someone just had some pictures or personal accounts. I will call them on Monday otherwise.

All you’re really trying to do is weld some more metal on to the sway bar attachment piece. If you have to do some cutting or grinding to make it work, do so. It doesn’t need to be elegant or perfect, just reinforce that tab.

Once you’re done, paint it.

Don’t draw conclusions from crappy instructions. Crappy instructions are common, as are friendly helpful guys on the other end of the phone.

Found this better set of install instructions from Turner and it confirmed that removing that little tab is the way to go:

I have the IE kit, but I ground the triangles to fit instead of grinding off the bent portion.

I had them welded up today and finished the install. I set all of my end link lengths with the bar about parallel to the ground and the suspension at ride height with the wheels on and sitting on my plastic ramps. I took it for a drive and didn’t feel anything weird. Is there any easy way to check for binding?
