I’m currently using a sandwich adapter to mount my oil temp/pressure sending unit for my gauges. This setup places the sender fairly close to exhaust manifold. A friend of mine running the same setup melted the sending unit when doing a track day out in Reno, CA. I’m heading to Thunderhill in a couple of weeks and the temps are forcasting over 100 deg. I’m wondering who else runs a similar setup and have they experienced the same problem? If so whtat have you done to aleviate the problem…header wrap, fabbed a cooling duct, etc. Any suggestions outside of switching/relocating the sending unit.
Thanks in advance,

Under hood temps?
Hear is a pic to help describe my setup. Is anyone running a similar setup? How can I lower my underhood temps. I’m afraid that I’ll melt the sender after extended track runs. I’ve removed insulation under the hood. Does any one use header wrap? Is it legal in spece30?
Thanks in advance.

I can’t remember where my oil temp is getting picked up I’ll have to check but header wrap is not spec E30 legal.
Move the sending unit…
Go to Autozone, etc. Purchase a grease gun whip-hose. It has 1/8 npt male fittings on both ends. Screw one end into your oil union block. On the other end you’ll need a 1/8npt female-to-female adapter to marry-up the sending unit to the hose.
Route the hose and the wiring to your sending unit out of heat and harms way. Secure the sending unit with a fabricated bracket or some tie-wraps.
That should work. Ask me how I know.

Relocating the sensor is the best solution, as Robert said. But if you can’t do that a heat sheild between the sensor and header should do the trick. If you have a problem it will be from radiation, not underhood temps and a heat shield will help in that regard.
