Turkey Trot Post-Race Smack Talk

Kelly, it’s good to see all your clutch issues worked out as well.

Been busy this week, so I’m late getting this posted. Saturday, bright and early, I get off to a good start and win practice (or at least a podium spot?). With my head barely fitting in my helmet, I got screwed in qualifying like Johann usually does…or does to himself. Never got a clear sail through the kink at full tilt due to traffic, so my times sucked. Still managed to qualify 4th or 5th or something. Johann once again fails to show up in time so Al screws everyone and slotted up, so I took 4th (aka 2nd row instead of 3rd row). Bam. That happens. Thanks Al!

The sprint race went well. I was able to ignore the chumps behind me like Fellatio and the Communist and just watch them disappear in the mirror. Meanwhile, I saw ringside Travis and Al have a super dicey race for 1st from behind Pattons car. I never had enough for Patton, until the white flag lap. Some mid pack Miata got in the way and I got a little bit more steam and Patton didn’t heading into turn 14. I juked the old man with my youthful agility for the last spot on the podium.

The IFU race was once again the best racing of the season. Un-fuc/<ing believable fun. I have video but am too lazy to edit it. It’s too long with the restarts and whatnot. If I get around to it, I’ll post it. It’s fun to watch, especially when… well, I’ll leave the highlights out. LeMans finish: of all people who would be the least likely to get injured exercising? That’s right kids, don’t do steroids. Apparently, they’re bad for actually being fit vs just looking the part. Ask Jones about his hamstring.

Saturday night… I’ll let the photo do the talking. One of the three little pigs who built his house out of straw. Al, who shot the pig?

Anyone ever find a pair of Arnette sunglasses?

Sunday was pretty fun up until a point. Qualifying race vs qualifying is DEFINITELY the way to go. Much better spend of our entry fees if you ask me. Sadly, I needed to be 2nd instead of 4th in that race to avoid the rest of the races’s bad turn of events (pun intended).

Apparently, Mariani divebombed Travis into T1, hit Travis, who hit me. My left rear bumper ended up getting locked into Travis’ front right and spun me around until his broke. Being stopped perpendicular to >20 cars coming full throttle at you is not a fun feeling. In fact, it sucks. Bad. Fortunately, everyone kicks a$$ (except for one…cough cough) and avoided t-boning me at 60 mph. Thanks! Fortunately, I just get to rebuild the front and rear suspension on the left side of my car. See you guys next year. Not making the enduro (or the sprints) at Road Atlanta anymore… By the way, does anyone have vid from behind Travis/Mariani into T1 Sunday (race 2)?

CMP Turn 1 sucks. Once again I pay the price for those that can’t understand the turn. It’s not about getting there, it’s about getting there and still being able to make the turn.

Craig,I’ve got two lifts. Bring it up this weekend (or next) and we can swap-out labor/help as I’ll be removing an engine out of the ole #8 car.

PS, nice race start.
Was Al asleep or what?

Hey Craig, I wish I could feel sorry for you, but its just karma for calling me a commie…

#25

Turn 1 at CMP will eventually collect us all.

I was waiting for that…and we were even told in the drivers meeting specifically not to do what somebody did…

Maybe standing starts would help???

Al what happens in the driver’s meeting, stays in the driver’s meeting…or something like that.

If you didn’t see it already, I have some of it in the first 15 seconds or so. Unfortunately it goes out of view right before contact starts to occur: http://www.vimeo.com/7551573

I’ve often thought relocating the flag stand would be a good idea. Closer to pit in maybe?

Maybe they could do like MidOhio and have the green on the back straight at the stand before the kink?

I am sure you will all take this with a grain of salt, but unless the guy in front has mechanical problems or is a complete back-marker, it is impossible to complete a pass when you are fully behind that car at start/finish – without slowing both cars that anyone in the same zip code will get by both passer and passee by turn 4.

Some people like race strategy, some people just like passing other cars regardless of where it puts them in the overall fight.
