got my traqmate yesterday, the display unit bracket installed on my dash easily but i am not sure where to put the sensor unit. instructions say it has to be level for accurate readings, i had hoped to put it in the back seat area but it’s all curved sheetmetal, nothing flat so getting it level and secure will be difficult. can’t use the passenger floor, the footwell area behind the driver seat might work but i’m concerned about water there. can i use the top of the deck under the rear window, right behind the chmsl? that’s nice and smooth and flat but will the relatively high location affect accuracy since it will have more lateral movement when the car rolls?
traqmate sensor unit location
I’d just bend up a couple of “u” shaped brackets out of 1x1/8" mild steel and weld them to where the rear seat used to live. By adjusting the length of the legs you can get a level surface.
i took a second (actually third) look and found a just barely big enough flat spot on the forward edge of the rear seat support, had to relocate my cool suit lines to make it work. with velcro it rocks slightly but hopefully it’ll be secure enough, we’ll see what a test drive reveals. the rear deck wouldn’t work because the data cable isn’t long enough to reach the display unit. just have to wire up a switch to feed it power and should be all set. thanks

unfortunately my cool suit (water and power), and fire suppression lines are already there, cut to length and securely bolted down so i’m reluctant to move them. plus a cage bar runs across the back of it so it’s not as large a space as on some other cars. but if the current location doesn’t pan out out i may try to make that spot work. i hate having stuff in the back seat area since it’s a two door car with both front seats so access is a pita.
Since you have accelerometers in the TM, you want them as close to the CG of the car as possible. Mount them just behind the emergency brake handle for the best results. Chuck

No, but neither is your CG.
PS - My Traqmate is mounted on the floor of my trunk. If my driving gets good enough that it’s a problem being a few feet away from the CG, I’ll move the Traqmate.
Nope, the CG on my car is basically next to my butt. Therefore, My TM is mounted on the trans tunnel, next to my butt:laugh: CB

I think that you’re safe.
I have long standing policy to not speak ill of someone in public, even kidding around. Steve Foushee can’t get to the Internet right now so he called me up and asked me to make this post. Only the belongs to me.

Damn. I know Gasman is old, but did he forget his login password again? It’s “slowenduroE30.”
Hope this helps.
