Transponder

#1

Just wondering if anyone has a used transponder for sale, and does everyone have the AMB transponder?

It sounds like AMB has made it very difficult to reuse a transponder and be able to utilize their website and mylaps.com. I bought a new one from Pegasus, free shipping. I bought it from them instead of AMB because I realized they are in Georgia, and I would have had to pay 7% sales tax.

Thanks! As posted above, would there be a problem with mylaps.com since it is used? I’m guessing I would have to ask the seller to unregister his number on his account.

My transponder came with the car. I don’t recall exactly what I did to log on to MyLaps, but I pretty much just chose a username and told it my transponder #. I didn’t have to do anything tricky.

My MyLaps page now shows the PO’s events, but since he was pretty good, no big deal.

Of course you wouldn’t want to get a transponder from some loser.

As I understand it, AMB/MyLaps has made it impossible to unregister and re-register a transponder. If you purchase a transponder 2nd hand, you must get the prior owner’s username and password or else you have no online access to YOUR laps.

One suggestion I have seen is that if you want to be able to sell a transponder with the car in the future, register each transponder you buy with a separate username & password.

PS - To answer an earlier question, AMB is the only choice.

Looks like used transponders are now a pita because AMB wasn’t making enough money.

Almost like Microsoft.

While that might have been a possible reason, I suspect that the cost of changing mylaps to permit de-registering/re-registering was also a factor. As you noticed, when they used to allow someone to re-register a transponder you saw all of the history associated with that transponder. My guess is that the database is indexed solely by transponder number.

Mine was used and I do not have any issues viewing my info online

I think AMB only recently removed the ability to de-register/re-register a transponder. AMB’s quasi press-release linked above is not dated, but I remember seeing a dust-up about it a couple months ago.

You are one of the lucky ones…
