trackvision 2.2 + IQ3

#1

I really wanted to buy the Trackvision software since I bought the IQ3. I finally bought it on Saturday night. Unfortunately I only have both data and video for one run. This is from Autobahn CC South Sunday from July 10th. I finally got the dash configured to display temp and op the night before. Either the wind cut feature was turned off on my camera or it wasn’t adequate and I need to put some foam over the mic or something. The dash in the car is configured to show op and temp and not lap times or a number for rpm. I doesn’t appear that I can change what is displayed on the iq3 in the overlay. My video was shot at 1080p in AVCHD with Dolby 5.1. It’s impressive that the program can actually read and edit this format. I haven’t found any free programs that can do that. Panasonic insisted that the software I got with the camera works with windows 7 but it doesn’t. I don’t know if this is what you Traqmate guys are using but it works with about any data recorder.

I think the lat Gs are off a bit on the IQ3. In the Datalink software it shows max Gs at 1.4 on right handers and 1.2 on left handers. Is there a way to change this in the software or do I need to wait until I’m on the scales to recalibrate it?

I can give 10 excuses for why I’m so slow on request. Check out the 7psi op in corner 3. I didn’t realize the streetfire watermark was going to cover it up but you can still see it.

I’m sure you know this already but it looks like you don’t have a crank scrapper/ windage tray in your oil pan based on your oil pressure numbers through left turns. If you have any hopes of your motor lasting you’ll get one in your car ASAP. I have seen several motors go for this exact reason. If you’ve already addressed this or are planning to, then ignore my concerns.

It has a crank scraper. I also bought a new oil pump but after dis assembly of the old pump I decided to save it for the new build since it costs about as much as a junkyard motor alone. The old pump looks like rocks went through it and I didn’t want that to happen to the new pump. I had done a leakdown test and pulled the head a few weeks before this event. I had 87 percent leakdown on cylinder 3. I didn’t bother testing 4,5 and 6. I pulled the head and checked for bent valves. I relapped all the valves and put it back together without finding anything wrong with the head. One piston had a dent from an intake valve and I think the previous owner had that valve replaced. Two valves looked like aftermarket valves and I replaced them with some good used bmw factory valves. I turned the crank a few times with the head off and found the cause of the leakage was severe scoring down the cylinder walls especially 3,4,5 and 6. Bottom line is that this motor is so far gone I don’t think the block is even salvageable.

I had planned on making a Paul Poore style pan myself but the amount of knowledge and skill it takes to tig weld aluminum is immense. I’m not sure how he does it but I think he must have an oven to preheat the pan and control it’s temp while welding it. Probably multiple argon regulators to shield the backside of his welds also. My welding table is also a table saw so I’ll probably have to use one of the solutions that everyone else who can’t afford a Poore pan.

I’m surprised no-one replied to this one. Anyway the main thing I’ve learn from watching it so many times is to wind it up and not short shift. Look at the speed I hit and go through the corner at in corner 4 in 3 compared to where I shift up to 4.

Nice video!
The high wind noise seems to be caused by a pretty heavy crosswind. Most parts of the track are decent audio, but when you are close to a cross-wind heading the wind noise comes in. Try a bandaid over your camera’s mic. Sounds rough, but it usually works!

Thanks for the nice words about TrackVision - much appreciated!
The overlay can display any channel you are logging with your IQ3, and in any format you like. The entire overlay can be whatever you want. So, if you want some things changed on the IQ3 dash overlay just shoot me an email to support[at]trackvision.net and I’ll do it for you.

Cheers,

I’ve used Racepak eqpt for about a year now for instructing drivers. For your G’s, did you look at the racepak file and see if the G loads were progressive or did they peak at 1.4 because of understeer to oversteer? The graphs are really helpful in analysing how youre a. Driving the car, b. the car is handling with regards to setup. Likelyhood is that the iq3 is spot on. I’d also get the canbus sensors for throttle and brake, from there you’ll be able to see the obvious such as being too digital (On, Off, On) or progressive and smooth.
Trackvision software is really nice and probably the best solution on the market right now. Their support is great too.
For the wind noise, we use cameras that have caps on the back to eliminate the noise (recplay - also 1080p). One facing forward, one backward and sometimes a footwell camera. Makes for great viewing and training aids.

When I was at the track I was able to see it plot points on g circle. They were clearly concentrated a few 10ths off in one direction. That’s why I was thinking the calibration might be off.
