If I remember from other posts you are in the southeast PA area. If you have CJ Tire around they are a Toyo motor sports dealer or at least part of that company is. They also run treadzone.com. Call the CJ Tires Bridsboro location and ask for Joe Specht. He covers North East or eastern seaboard or something like that. He can hook you up with toyos and you can also redeem toyo bucks with them. I did last season. Then free shipping to your closest CJ Tires. I happen to pass one on the way home from work so its real convenient for me. Also has good prices on Team Dynamics wheels in our offset and hole spacing. They turned around a set of TD wheels, R888s, mounting and balancing for about a grand in about one day. Not bad service.
They (CJ’s/Treadzone) don’t come to every NASA event…umm they don’t come to ANY NASA events !!! Support those who support you.

The Falken is not a “R” compound tire…not very good to race on…also you need to have support for the tire too, keep that in mind !!!

Phil,
Not that I don’t appreciate trackside service, but that solution is not always convenient either. In my case I’m in the middle of painting wheels and swapping tires around and it’s not something I want to screw with at a track event (nor, likely, would you). If I don’t buy them from you for track delivery I have to pay shipping, which brings them right back to being the same basic price as buying locally. CJ’s does sponsor some of our local hill climb activity also.

If the discussion is between someone like you and a mail order house like Discount Tire, then I agree, I’m calling you. I am willing to pay a bit more for local convenience though.

Hey I realize we can’t be everybody’s supply house. It won’t stop us from trying though…

+1 for phil.

Great service and it’s actually slightly cheaper to buy from them at the track… if you don’t mind pushing some wheels around on raceday.
They’re also great about accepting toyo bucks.

Hang on to those Toyo bucks. I’m gonna make a bold prediction that we will be running them for the coming season (and 2011 and 2012). At least it’ll save us the trouble of a tire test.

Steve you’re like some kind of wizard with a crystal ball.

#27

You have raced against me. You know I have no balls. But it isn’t hard to look at HQ’s relationship with Toyo and figure out it would be hard for one of the largest spec classes to go against what Uncle Jerry really wants.

#28

So you’re saying that NASA isn’t ‘married’ to Toyo, but is more its b!tch?

Got it.
August 11, 2009 7:48 AM — The National Auto Sport Association announces it is renewing its longtime partnership with Toyo Tires; extending its contract for an additional three years beginning January 1, 2010. As a part of this extension, all NASA spec tire classes will be going back to the Toyo Proxes RA1 as the required tire. This will become effective January 1, 2010 with a three-weekend grace period to allow the use of the previously allowed R888 tires. “This move was made in response to customer input, and we hope the racers will be pleased by this announcement. The RA1 has become a favorite amongst many NASA racers and has proven itself for speed, consistency, and longevity,“ said NASA’s National Chairman Ryan Flaherty.

NASA Competition Racing has a wide variety of road racing classes designed to welcome both entry level and seasoned racers who wish to compete wheel to wheel. Toyo Tires’ Proxes® RA1™ is an R-compound, street legal competition radial and is the spec tire for several classes in this exciting program.

“NASA and Toyo Tires have enjoyed a successful relationship for 14 years and we look forward to adding another three years to that run,” said Jerry Kunzman NASA’s Executive Director. “In our opinion Toyo has always had the best interest of their customers in mind so it’s great to see the relationship continue in this manner.”

“Toyo Tires is proud to continue our sponsorship of NASA road racing,” said Stan Chen, manager of events and motorsports, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Our Proxes RA1 has long been popular with amateur and professional racers and is a great fit with this exciting series.”

Great for vehicles ranging from sport compacts to European and American muscle machines, the Proxes RA1 is cost-effective by delivering excellent wear and winning consistency on the track. NASA classes using the Proxes RA1 include: American Iron, Camaro-Mustang Challenge, Factory Five Challenge, Honda Challenge, Spec 3/Spec e30 (BMW), Spec Focus, Spec Miata, and 944-spec.

It will give us a little time to replace all those rain tires!!

#33

Yea it’ll give you time but it’s not going to help you burn them up, unless you plan on running them in the dry. There’s no way around the rain tire issue.
With this grace period, SE30 in the MA will not have a spec tire until summer of next year. We’ve got 2 weekends left in '09 for guys to burn up 888’s. Does anyone need almost a full calendar year and 5 events to get rid of 888s? All the while we’re going to be running 2 different tires which I think is a problem for a lot of reasons, especially when the top guys are qualifying within a few hundredths of each other every time.
I really hope we can have another gentlemens agreement in the MA next year to run the same tire in the dry races for the entire season.

#34

not every series in every NASA region runs the same number of events. Take your pick, which is less likely to add more confusion to this situation …

 • one across-the-board grace period
 • a grace period per series per region

And since SE30 rain tires are likely just unshaved versions of our dry tires, why wouldn’t someone want to use them up running them in the dry?

Robert, you can always use your 8’s for an enduro.
