Tire Help Needed

Hello All,
I recently ordered Toyo RA-1’s from Colony Tire locally to prepare for the upcoming season. During the order discussion with them I explained that I wanted 6 shaved and then all 8 heat cycled.

Unfortunately now that these have arrived, Colony says that while they have a shaver in one of their stores, they cannot do this and it’s up to me to get them shaved. :pinch: We have different memories of the order conversation. :S

NET: Does anyone know where I can now get these shaved and balanced? I assume it is a waste of time balancing them before they are shaved. Please let me know. Thanks!

Erle,
I use Radial Tire in Silver Spring, MD for all my tire needs. The owner, Paul Moorcones, is a fellow racer, and is always helpful.

If you’re anywhere near DC, I can’t imagine using anyone else.

if you have a NASA or SCCA group around you, you might ask them who will do this locally

I don’t know where you live but I just ordered shaved proxes ra-1s from appalachian tire (Mike Haworth - racetire@compuserve.com). He is currently in Florida at the SCCA nationals, but he is returning on Jan 17 and told me he could get me shaved tires within a few days. I am also planning on attending the Feb. event at VIR.

I was referred to Appalachian by Ric Bergstrom (I just purchased his car).

Thank you to everyone for their help! I eventually found Vilven Tire from out in the midwest. They are the biggest Toyo dealer in the US. They are sending shaved tires @ $130 ea and full treads @ $120 ea They have 2 numbers: 1 (800) 251-0017 and (888) 775-8646

I ordered before the Marcus deal was closed… Thanks again for everyone’s help!

How did you get a quote of $130 for shaved RA1’s? I just called and they told me $140 for shaved. Are you getting 205/50/15’s?

Ah there’s the difference - I still have 14’s on my car. Stuck with the stock wheels in what appears my singular attempt to keep costs down.

Was that price shipped? Sounds like the best I’ve heard if so. I need to order a set just in case I get in to VIR…

I bought 6 shaved (@ $130 ea) and 2 full tread (@ $120 ea) with shipping of $84.95 for a total of $1,104.95 These are the 14" variety and now give me what I hope will be sufficient rubber (when prudently rotated) to get through a couple of seasons. At least that’s what I advertised to the family controller…

Appalachian Tire sells 205/50/15 shaved for $145 including shipping. I think that’s the best deal out there.
