Tire experiment

I am talking about running Toyo’s, they are the company that give us our contingency. I am just wondering how they compare. I could buy cheap used RA-1’s and just run them if I wanted, after the last set of new RA-1’s I bought, I was not happy, some of that was the shave, anyway I am not buying anymore, and have run in GTS 1 twice this year. Not really concerned about changing anything, yall keep buying the RA-1’s and getting the contengency$$.

I have also run the azenis in Chumpcar and think they are pretty good track tires.

Here’s the latest from the SCCA/SM side of things. I’m not saying NASA SE30 should follow this, but as goes the SM tire supply goes the SE30 tire supply…

The CRB is aware of the concerns of Spec Miata owners about availability of the Toyo Proxes RA1 tires that are required for National racing. Due to conditions at their Japanese production facilities, Toyo is unable to tell us when these tires will be back in production and readily available in the United States. As a result, the CRB will make a decision about Spec Miata tires as more information is available. If there is not an adequate supply of RA1s, there will be a TEMPORARY change of the specification to permit the use of the Toyo Proxes R888s in addition to the RA1s. Toyo reports that there is a sufficient supply of the R888s. However, only ONE tire will be permitted at the Runoffs. If an adequate supply of the RA1s is not available before the Runoffs, then ONLY the R888s would be permitted. For now, the RA1 remains the required tire.

Wow, ain’t that a bitch. Well, I don’t know anything about Miata set up but if it was me I’d run it at front-left.

That’s funny right there!

I wish you guys would share your secret then so I don’t feel like I am throwing money away. The tires themselves were $620 and shipping was $80 from Phil’s. If anyone knows where I can beat that please feel free to PM me as saving money is a high priority for me. By the way Sasco (our SE sponsor) lists the RA1s shaved at $700 without shipping at $175 a pop. Am I missing some magical discounts?

Yo guys

the tires just went up, again April 1, Evan if you can get any for $600 you better buy them all, word this morning is there are very few, anywhere. Again, I just wanted to do this as a fun experiement, but it looks like there is going to be serious crap going on with the tire rules, yall need to keep an eye on the NASA website.

#27

Man now you are making me worried I should order another set now. I guess I will call around again.

#28

Probably should have taken that baby name offer I made last year and you’d have a beautiful baby named “gumball” AND a new set of tires…

Life lesson…
