Tire Agreement for June Jam???

#1

At Robert’s suggestion, here’s a new thread.

I’ve been running R888s since I started. I need to buy some tires and expect to use this next set at Nationals. I am leaning toward buying RA1s.

There were some rumblings about a “gentlemen’s agreement” to run R888s in the Southeast. I suspect most people are still using up ate-ate-ates. Is anyone else planning on running RA1s?

Here we go [don’s flame suit] I needed tires so all I have now with the exception of a worn out (2 enduros and sprint race) set of R888’s are RA1’s…

If that is a huge issue I’ll withdraw from the sprints or run for fun.

I called my local distributor last week for a set of 888’s and was told he couldn’t get them for months. He could however get me the RA1’s. WTF?

Steve, I too, was looking at the RA1s.

The decision will not just be for June Jam, but for the rest of availability/rules updates. Chuck, what,or did, we say?

Unless there is an overwhelming concensus, I say let the racer choose the tire that best fits the wallet and driving style. Yes, the 888s are faster…but…

I could be mistaken, but I thought that we’d decoded that either was okay after that last NASA announcement.

Chuck?

We went thru this last year, and it wasn’t pretty. The NASA statement for 2009 is pretty clear, and some folks have made plans and spent money based on it.

Yeah, it’d be swell if everybody ran the same tire in SE, but nobody should live in fear of being protested or shunned if they choose to run RA1s, and certainly no protests would be upheld.

Run either tire, and go in peace…Please.

Jim -

Both are legal. I just didn’t want to go against the grain if everyone is running 888s.

I can ony assume that this coming up because I ran ra1 last weekend. After it was determined that RA1s were still legal it was a no brainer. Cheaper than 888 and last much longer. Use what you want but I will be using the one that saves my wallett the most money, especially after the expenses I have had so far this year

Don’t worry Devinney I am not even coming to RA in June, you’ll have a shot at the win;) Oh wait you have a 3.73 now so maybe not:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Not directed at you. I had someone ask me if there was an informal agreement to run 888’s and I wasn’t sure so I thought I’d ask.

I am the defending (mediocre, rain) race winner at Road Atlanta, so I’ve got momentum on my side. ;). Too bad you won’t be there. I will miss seeing you pop into view in my side mirrors in each braking zone. :o

So, I’ve also been thinking about getting a set of RA1s. I emailed Phil from Philtire - he has them at $143 shaved plus a current vendor, however I’ve been waiting for 4 days to get a shipping quote. Makes me wonder if he really wants the business.

Does Sasco have RA1s? How much are they? If not who else do you suggest? It seems RA1s should come out to be 80-100 dollars cheaper for the set.

Alex.

I’m going back to RA1s. I’ll probably have RA1s at nationals.

I thought I was clear in my previous post, let me say it again. I cannot find anyone that has inventory of 888’s. The RA1’s he can get.

I understand the series wants to use the 888 but what if we can’t find them?

Little birdie told me today that Mr Steve D ordered some RA1, so it sounds like he made up his mind.

I also ordered a set.
