I don’t interpret it as illegal. I wish I could get an official answer on the legality of adding a fuel accumulator. I’ve sought one by e-mail but have not gotten a final response.
9.3.1.3.2. Any fuel pump may be fitted.
9.3.1.3.3. A fuel pump may not be located in the driver/passenger compartment.
Any fuel pump? My custom-designed and uniquely-fabricated system will consist of a two-part pump that very closely resembles a stock in-tank pump plus a Carr Industries accumulator.
While it does not specifically state “replaced”, I would argue that the “any fuel pump” line falls under the definition in 3.5 (“Replaced” means that the item may be replaced with items meeting or exceeding OEM
specifications). NOTE: “…the item may be replaced with items…”
I can’t see why this apparently widespread problem with a $50 fix wouldn’t be deemed legal.
Steve D.
Steve, I asked for clarification on that rule also and never got a response. Not saying that I am right, but my interpretation of the fuel pump rule is that any pump (as in singular) can be used. The 89 BMW is designed to have one pump. Adding two is possibly an illegal modification.
This is an area that should be clarified.
I’d like to see a ruling on the accumulator too. My dual pump '87 will just barely make 40min before sputtering and I’ve replaced everything but the tank.
If the accumulator genuinely works, it would be a cheap fix to a common problem.
Sway bar reinforcement tabs are legal because the OEM design isn’t adequate for the track. Otherwise we’d be stuck with the cost and hassle of replacing suspension arms all the time. Similarly, an accumulator ought to be legal because it would allow us to avoid the cost and hassle of replacing our fuel systems piece by piece chasing this OEM inadequacy down.
That assumes that the accumulator works.
I’m about to swap my pump, but I’m using a “single” Mustang GT pump from the 87-91 era. I also noticed someone jacked up the underside of the tank at some point, probably adding to the problems. Can I just push out that dent from inside the tank? (This thread is way off topic I would point out, we should move it).
John
Heh, better to ask forgiveness than permission, right?
I’ll just weld the secondary pump to our spare tire/wheel combo and rename it the Chromepocalypse FireStorm!
I’m thankful of that too JP. I have a pretty low tolerance for rule infractions in club racing. If you have to cheat to win there is something wrong with that picture.

Bending and breaking are two very different things. If you have such a huge issue with everything that you post about, do what you’re supposed to do, protest it.
What you read one way in the rules I read exactly the opposite. Your interpretation is just that, yours. If you feel passionate enough about an alleged infraction, protest it and let Carter decide, but please, please stop quoting the CCR every other post and handle it where it needs to be handled - at the track.
Sorry to get on my soapbox as I know you most likely half joking most of the time, but its getting old.

JP, We agree on one thing, your interpretation and mine are opposite. I’ll go on record right now to tell you and everybody else here that I’m not ever going to protest anybody for anything…ever. If you want to cheat, have at it. If you find glory in winning and know you broke the rules to do it…congratulations on your win. Bending the rules and breaking the rules are identical. Carter will tell you that he has nothing to do with rule enforcement, that is up to NASA. Thank you for posting this, it is good to know where you and I stand going forward.

Actually, check your records sport. I was faster than you in every session except Saturday practice. Just because you suck less at putting the car in the sand doesn’t make you faster. :P[/quote]
Did you flunk math? Going off less actually did make me faster. What don’t you understand about Sasha #16 and Jones #18? What don’t you understand about you being listed as 1 lap down and me not?
P.S. Aren’t you still a rookie, bitch? After the race I celebrated with Travis on our trip home and ripped off all my “R” stickers and tossed my rookie plate.:silly:

I guess Im not a rookie anymore, if you count the two enduro’s I ran in. Ill have to de-rookie my car so you dont feel so bad having to wear your ass as a hat thanks to a rookie. Now you will be getting beat by a regular racer. My Laps is a beautiful thing but I can understand why you dont want to look at it, your times depress me too.
P.S. that pic of me “off” in the sand is actually the fast line according to your logic. You seemed to like that area of “track” :pinch:

Nice. Good one to watch. Agricultural racing at its finest.
These aren’t Skeen’s Rosetta Stone Learn To Race DVD’s. These are more frustrating to watch than Season 2 of Setup. Missed shifts, bad race craft, lack of pedal on floor, point by’s like it’s Brian Jones at a DE… you’ll see.
Saturday’s sprint race wasn’t very entertaining, so I didn’t bother posting the entire thing. The IFU2 part 1 is a front row seat to the Patton/ Goldwaite battle. The IFU2 standing start was fun as he!!.. Travis got around me and that’s where the fun began. A close second is the end of Sunday’s sprint race with Chuck and I two wide from T2 through 9.
