Time for some CMP/IFU Recaps

…Speaking of Toyo bucks, they seem to have been paying off for enduros so far this season (meaning 3 races/weekend even though the program material says it is limited to two)…So who’s to say they won’t pay for IFU-2.

So, if anyone needs me to email them a Toyo bucks form, drop me a line to chuck [atnospam] factory3performance.com and I’ll sign one/scan it and send to you.

About two years ago when I first started watching Spec E 30 videos on YouTube, I told my partner Rick “we can run with these guys”. Well after we got the car built, did some testing earlier this year, and learned that I was more than 5 seconds slower than the front runners, I adjusted my expectations. Former Masters champion Mark O’Meara stated during an interview during this year’s masters “Sometimes if you lower your expectations of yourself a bit, you end up with a better result” (paraphrased). So, I came in to this year’s IFU-2 event (my first official Spec E30 race weekend) with O’Meara’s comments in mind. I no longer expected to win first time out and as a result, I had a very enjoyable event.

My strategy was to drive within my limits, find some guys about my speed to race with, stay out of the fast guy’s way, and get through the weekend with the car in one piece and no new enemies. From that perspective, tooling around at the back of the pack, keeping the car on the track, surviving the standing re-start and subsequent dust cloud and dirty track in the IFU-2, and managing to finish slightly better than D.A.L. was very satisfying.

I had a blast racing with Switzer, Childress, Foushee, Hall, Stroup, and Tripp while the other maniacs did their thing at the front. I made some rookie mistakes (Gasman, you KNOW what I am talking about) and hopefully didn’t piss too many people off. Had we been racing for $100,000 I might have done some things differently.

Having said all of that, the first weekend “nice guy” gloves are now off and at IFU-3 I’ll be gunning for you smack talking, dirt slinging front runners!!!..…Yeah Right……

Anyway, thanks to the organizers/sponsors for great event.

Don

Mike this is solid bit of AP prose, but it seems to gloss over the fear and concern you must have felt knowing that I was right behind you during the Sat. race.

There is no shame in showing your readers a more ‘human’ side…

Sunday Sprint Video. Please keep an eye out for Jim’s cheater motor (for the short time he’s ahead of me).

JP - you sig has a mistake it should say ‘no chicks allowed’. And that power is from the new spec exhaust. We ground the bird poop welds down and painted it for smoother underbody air flow.
Brian, I checked your lap times on MyLap. Jesus Christ. You haven’t been doing this any longer then me, you come to my home track that you hardly know, and you beat the shit out of me.

Makes it really hard for me to be cocky and talk shit. But you still have a potbelly and shoulders like a school girl.
Thanks for the compliment? I felt pretty good out there, Im not sure if the s52 I put in the car last week helped out or not. Was anybody else besides Indy Jim hitting 160 on the front straight? :cheer:

My only goal for the weekend was to be faster than Sasha because I hate him.

Sorry about your “time out” would have liked to see you run the R888’s some more and get your feedback after a few races. Too bad youre like Owen from Throw Momma from the Train. as Anne Ramsey says in the movie"Owen dosen’t have any friends, hes fat. He’s fat and he’s stupid." :stuck_out_tongue:

Damion- sorry, I wasn’t up there very long, the sand was calling me. I just remember you and I having some close racing for a few turns, must have assumed you were up there at the restart.

Fun clean racing this past weekend. Here’s my IFU2 restart and a couple more laps.

“There’s one sure way for a new guy to get on pole in his maiden race: take it slow (check); be relatively inexperienced (check); bring an unsorted; down-on-power race car (check); and debut in a race where the slowest of the field gets to start up front (double check).” READ MORE…

Quote the idiot box and call me fat & stupid will you? I’m a 171 lbs of middle-aged gristle, as hard as woodpecker lips, and as mean as RR track management. Now go turn on the tv while I read War and Peace and clean my machine gun.

Now that I have that out of my system. We have 3 boys, the oldest of whom is 5. Had to smile at the “time out” reference.

Scott,

Here are my videos. Quality is crap since I forgot to turn on the image stabilizer. :S Its only bad on the front straight. It is some good racing though, at least I think

Saturday- is the full race until the yellows.

Sunday- I forgot to turn the camera on until half way thru the race. nice… and it ends with 2 of my three offs. I failed to record the first one. Enjoy.

Actually, check your records sport. I was faster than you in every session except Saturday practice. Just because you suck less at putting the car in the sand doesn’t make you faster. :stuck_out_tongue:

I had a blast this weekend as always, sorry about your clutch but glad you got it fixed! Cant wait to give you the smack down at CMP.

Something like "Now boys, your Daddy was B.A.D. this weekend when I raced at break-neck speed past the parked car of the race director. He was so angry that he and the other usually friendly folks that run the place made me go sit in time out in Turn 4 in the hot sun for hours and hours, without even a cute coworker to keep me company.

See, even Daddys have to go sit in time out sometimes. Now, eat all your vegetables and then go put away your toys unless you want me to take you over to turn 4…"

Looks like fun boys, keep posting the vids I like to watch them while American Idol is on . Maybe we’ll see some more of the SE at Nationals?

Video to come, our internet guru is meditating on the conversion of an ASF turned WMV for use on our site.

Scott, trust me, replace your in tank fuel pump, they get weak over time even though they still work. As Patton loves to say, “ask me how I know”.

#39

It occurred to me after we spoke about it; that’s a brand-new fuel pump. That was its first race, actually.

#40

I had fuel starvation issues in both the IFU-2 and Sunday’s race. My fuel pump was replaced with a new one after starvation issues at Rockingham last summer.

Scott, let us know how the investigation into a second fuel pump solution goes.
