ThunderHill 4/16-17/2011

Good morning fellow racers,

There were some rumblings of doing another BBQ at this event. Last year when we had 16 cars racing the party grew to almost 50 people now with 30+ cars we could easily have 100 for the BBQ and that number for me is overwhelming, if someone else wants to take the lead and organize it I’d love to bring something to Q. Maybe a cocktail hour with hors d’oeuvres would be a way to get to meet and mingle with the new and old races and friends it could even carry on after the NASA BBQ if necessary

Also who will be testing Friday with TrackMasters?

Since were all driving BMW’s, should we make it a Wine Party and dress up all yuppi like. LOL, just kidding.

I could organize it.
Fill in your name and what your going to bring.

You do Dress like that. You want us to imitate you? When you started beating me up about “young” wines, I KNEW you were a yuppie!

“Also who will be testing Friday with TrackMasters?”

Bennett Steve just started a thread about that.

Bennett I just picked up the Power Tank you use. Nice piece. Once I fill that with Nitrous and get it mounted, my starts should look more like yours!

Be careful not to use too much it might be just too obvious, just a little squirt.

…hors d’oeuvres …
Man, I really have to build my dad one of these things, he says that all the time. And after to much wine it becomes “horse’s ovaries”. Freakin’ winos…

Anyways, a BBQ sounds great! I’ll have my Honda buddy bring his projector. An old HC tradition of “movie night” is always a ton of fun. Nothing like sitting around drinking beer and talking poop while watching in-car from that days racing.

That sounds great Mike. Man I should have thought of that. I have a projector and screen, what a great idea! Bummed I won’t be there.:frowning:

Someone just bring a Keg…

Unfortunately we’re not going to be able to make this event. :frowning: We did a NCRC test day last Friday and the #42 motor went through 4.5 quarts of oil in (9) 20 minute sessions. Motor will be getting checked over. The #41 motor isn’t ready for prime time yet.

Come on. You have 11 days. You can build a car in 11 days.

You can do it!

I know a good shop in Campbell if you need help.

I’ve always been told oil is cheep, keep pouring it in…

#11

Did you put the drain plug back in?

Did you put the drain plug back in?
LOL. In May we’re doing the SE30, GTS and WERC so we need the motor to be in top form, and time to get it rebuilt.

#13

I havnt registered yet, but I here we have a one hour race on Sunday. That is very cool!

#14

Wow, Jerry dropped a bombshell with this schedule, a 1 hour race on Sunday!

I keep looking at it and wondering if I’m reading this correctly. I think it’s too late for an April fools joke right? I am definitely liking this idea, it takes me back to my LeMons roots.

 • Any details Scoot?

Do I need to get a new fuel pump to be able to use my whole tank, or a friend with a gas can for pit stops? Will major ballast be needed to make weight on empty? …Is this real life?

Hey Guys…below is a copy of my email I sent out to the group last night…it has some details about the “petite” enduro. There may be some slight changes in the rules between now and the race, but the main rules are pretty much set.

Our first Thunderhill event of the season is coming up soon! Remember we are planning the SE30 racers, friends and family social and BBQ Saturday night. Brad McClure is organizing it and has a spreadsheet link where you can fill in what you would like to bring food/drink wise and how many will be there. Here’s the link:

Event Schedule
The event schedule is here:
http://www.nasanorcal.com/events2011/apl/schedule.pdf

Paddock Location
Note our new paddock spot for this event. All the SpecE30s are in our own designated spot just south of Tech. There should be plenty of space. There will be a group of SE30 racers at the Friday’s trackmaster’s event and they will set up and get our paddock spot organized. We want all the SE30s racing to paddock there!

Friday Access
Trackmasters is running Friday. NASA folks may be held outside the main gate until 2pm. When you are let in, please do not disturb the event in progress.

Sunday 1-Hour SE30 and SM Petite Enduro
NASA is throwing a little fun our way this weekend with a 1-hour “petite enduro” for SE30’s and Spec Miatas in lieu of the usual 30-minute sprint race. The preliminary rule set for the enduro follows and is subject to change before the event. NASA will also review the rules at our driver’s meeting.

 1. The HOT pit lane will remain clear at all times, except as indicated below.
 2. There is a 25 mph speed limit in the pit lane.
 3. No fuel allowed in pit lane.
 4. No one under 18 in the pit lane without prior written approval from Jerry Kunzman.
 5. Each driver will be required to make one stop to “change drivers.” Teammates may change or keep the same driver. Single entry drivers will drive both stints. During the driver-change stop, the driver must exit the car and place a NASA-supplied decal on the outside of the windshield, on the top corner of the passenger side. After placing the decal the driver may get back in the car and take the track. Or, the driver, if part of a team, may go over the pit wall to the COLD pits and the teammate may take over driving duties.
 6. Additional pit stops may be made for repairs, or any other reason, but it must be done in the paddock. No one over the pit wall during the race, for any reason, except the driver OR driver’s teammate (not both at the same time).
 7. The required stop must take place between the green and checkered flags.
 8. Cars do not have to be running during the checkered lap to be scored. This will be scored like any other race.
 9. Weight for compliance checking will be the class-listed weight, less 35 lbs. All drivers/ teams should adjust accordingly.
 10. Any driver found to have left the pits without all the proper safety equipment in place will be suspended from NASA for no less than one year.
 11. These supplemental rules only apply to the 1-hour race on April 17th, 2011.
 12. Additional rules may apply that are presented at the driver’s meeting.

I’ll send out any updates to this rule set as they become available.

Cheers,
Scott

That’s less than a half quart per session - my daily driven Honda uses more than that!

#17

Eeek - I just got an email from Ali, USTCC will be joining us in the mini-enduro on Sunday. There goes the neighborhood!

I’m envisioning Jeff mounting some extra cameras on his car to commentate on the one while racing the other. Going to be an interesting session for sure. 30 Se30s + 20 Meetatas + 10 UST for 60 minutes! B)

#18

Compression check revealed the motor isn’t competitive. 56% difference between best and worst cylinder. :frowning:

#19

Dang I picked the wrong event to miss! :S

Sounds like a real hoot. I love the idea.

Have fun Boys!
