Thunder Hill 6-7 & 6-8

Who’s going to the Hill next week? I am arriving on Friday around 5:00. I am looking forward to the weekend. My second race weekend, can’t wait! I am running TT on Saturday for a little x-tra practice on Saturday. Where is everyone staying? The Norcal threads have been pretty quiet lately. Is anyone home?

I’m waitlisted for trackmasters on Friday, so I should be up either Thurs or Friday night. In classic procrastinator style, I haven’t sorted out a hotel yet. Anybody wanna split a room?

Great - I’ll be up on Friday evening, staying at the Golden Pheasant. We could try to hook up at Casa Ramos that night.

This has been a good break for me, got a bunch of little stuff done that needed attention. Probably not any faster, but at least the fricking car will start :stuck_out_tongue:

Looks like there are only 5 spec e30 cars registered at http://www.nasaproracing.com/norcal/events/entrylist.htm

93 - AJ
224 - Scott Clough
88 - Brenden
1 - Elliott/Donnie
804 - me

Steve’s trying to get the car together. Where’s everyone else? Kevin/Carl? Scott? Ron? Gil? Mike?

I’ll be there…I just registered this morning. Looks like the gates open at 2pm on Friday. I think Walter was going up on Friday to do Trackmasters so if that’s still the case he should have paddock space saved for everyone. It would be cool if we could get the same spot as last time…however those PRC guys with the big fancy haulers also like the same spot so we’ll see.

I’ll find out if Walter is going up Friday and let folks know via this forum and the email list.

Cheers,
Scott

btw…Kevin and Carl will be there. I believe Tommy Lo and another racer are renting Walter’s #37 car for the weekend to race. I don’t know about Gil or Ron.

UPDATE: Kevin and Carl will be doing the Trackmaster’s event on Friday and (hopefully) will grab the spot we had last time next to the staging area.

Also, Walter is having Ric McCormick coach him during the TT runs in his M3 and is willing to defray the coaching costs if up to 3 Spec guys want to get help. It would probably come out to around $100 each. Call Walter at 916-636-9526 or email him at walter.ford@vmwerks.com if you’d like to get in on the coaching deal.

The weather is looking good for the weekend, mid to high 80s and sunny. I’ll be the Race Chair for the weekend. Remember too that I’ll have a NorCal SpecE30 envelope for donations to the two injured corner workers. We’ll collect donations, sign/seal the envelope and put it in the donation jar at the track.

Hey guys, I was planning on bringing up the Hawk brake pads to give to the winners of the last race and the race this coming weekend. Unfortunatley my supplier is out of stock for about 2 weeks. I will bring them for the next race at Sears Point. I will have Donny’s shocks at the track this weekend.

Thanks and sorry for the hold up on the pads.

See you guys this weekemd,
Anil

I wish I could make it but I’m going to Barber to watch both my son’s run HPDE in Matt’s E30. It will be 95f in Alabama.

I’ll also get a chance to watch the Spec30 races and meet some of the South and East coast guys.

I’ll be back for the Infineon event at the end of June.

Good luck to you all. Damn, I’m gonna miss the racing !!

FYI from your Race Director for the weekend:

Hey guys,

As you may know NASA Nor-Cal has sort of catered to the Spec Miata program this season. That class has been known to sign up 100 plus cars at certain events. However this season has not produced the numbers I had hoped for. That makes less and less sense to keep giving them their own run group.

The first thing that would come to my mind would not be to dump 20 more miatas into the already large group A but to put the closely timed and fast growing field into the miata group. However, this is not as easy as it sounds. The miatas are racing for money, and more than enough to cover the average guys weekend of racing. So the e30s (who are currently a bit slower) would have to do a good job of proving (in everybody else’s opinion) that they can not only race each other clean, but other cars that may be on track with them.

This weekend IMO will be the determining weekend of how large of a field the SM will be for the remainder of the season, so make an example of this class. Let’s show people it’s the place to be.

See you all at the track,
Will Faules

remember: this is all my own opinion and does not reflect the National Auto Sport Assn. or what N.A.S.A. may do in the future with the Spec E30 or the Spec Miata Program.

If you want to get some aggressive agricultural driving out this weekend then check this out:

Willows, Ca (May 28, 2008) Thunderhill’s Rally Cross would like to invite all NASA racers and participants to join in on the fun at the Thunderhill Rally Cross course on June 7-8. It is a great course with elevation changes and over 30 turns! It is single car timed runs with an average of about 2 minutes per run.

For only $10 anybody can come down with a streetcar, racecar, or even truck, dirt bike or ATV and run the course during the NASA weekend. So come on down to the south end of the track (to driver’s left at front gate) and check out the only time it is cool to drive in the dirt at Thunderhill!

For more information call Will Faules (530)934-5588 ext.116 or email will@thunderhill.com.

Hey Will,

I’m not exactly clear on your post…are you going to have the SpecE30s run in the Miata group this weekend? or are you going to look at how we behave in Group A and then consider placing us with the SMs in future events provided the SM car counts stay at their current numbers?

I think it’s a good idea to combine the two groups given the performance and weight simularities of the two classes. 20 or so SMs and 10-15 SpecE30s spaced out on a three mile track would be nice event IMO. I’ll not miss getting dive-bombed by H-1 Hondas  I’m sure AJ will agree on that point!

Cheers,

You can say that again brother! The way I read Will’s post is this is our trial weekend and we’ll be in Group A.

Will, if I’m not mistaken spec e30 has been pretty clean with the one exception in the first weekend. I realize perception is reality, and hopefully that can be taken into account because we would all like to run with the Miatas in a dedicated group. I would also think that it would put Spec E30 in a much better light and help to promote and grow the series.

I’ll be doing my best to run clean this weekend to help make this happen, very exciting!

#13

Sorry I was not very clear. SE30 will run in normal grp A this weekend. I would like to see the se30s run with miatas…

#14

Can’t wait to get back on track. And to think I have to wait almost three months after this weekend…:frowning: .

Who wants to go and rallycross with me…:stuck_out_tongue:
