Definitely an interesting weekend! This was my first time at Watkins Glen and I had a blast. It’s always been very high on my list of tracks to drive and now it is very high on my list of favorite tracks! The weather was 100% miserable, low 40’s, raining, windy, foggy, just horrible. Luckily, I enjoy such weather once I’m on track. Practice was very educational. Qualifying was equally rainy with low visibility; I was able to put the 74 on Pole in the shortened session. The race conditions were nearly identical; I got a good start and led the entire race. The double yellows came out once the fog got too bad and we ended under caution. Set the fastest lap and got the W.

When I woke up Sunday morning I could hear the wind and rain and knew it was going to be more of the same. Sunday quali brought the same conditions we saw on Saturday. I was able to put the car on Pole again and was looking forward to a good race. Around lunch time the fog lifted, the rain stopped and things actually began to dry out. I was excited to drive Watkins Glen in the dry but at the same time I knew that I had never had a single dry lap on the track and knew that it would be quite an adjustment in the early laps of the race. Sure enough, it was. I led the first lap but Sean Curran and Matt Russell got by and began to pull away slightly. As we clicked off the laps and I got more and more comfortable with the track and my dry marks, my laps started to come together. I was able to catch and pass Sean and Matt. A late caution came out so that the EV guys could push matt out of the wet/muddy grass, after the caution there was only a lap or so of green flag racing. I held on to the lead and was able to win the race again with the fastest lap.

All in all, an awesome weekend at the Glen. I have not been that cold in quite some time but the on track excitement made up for the weather. Big thanks to my Dad, DriveGear, and everyone else for helping out. Great racing with the NE guys……it’s not too late to sign up for VIR this weekend, temps supposed to be in the 70’s!
