That is one detail I forgot in the write-up. So on Friday? night the vintage group has a big wine and cheese festival. Everyone in their nice clothes not discussing how to pick up a “vintage” E30.

Al - Crack Kills / Tijuana / Bart Simpson t-shirt (off white/yellow) tight fitting; madras shorts also tight fitting; vietnam booney hat

Shades of Caddyshack…
Als best t shirt by far is the baby got back t-shirt that is about 6 sizes too small

Geeger, you’re asking the wrong guy. Mr. Bill has People For That, and I pinged Mr. Harrison this afternoon asking for evidence. Eagerly awaiting, I am…
Basically, we manhandled the shit out of it, welded the three pieces together, then forced it where we wanted it and welded a new bracket on to hold it in place. the exhaust is under tension and if you undid the bracket it would spring back to it’s original shape. It took two of us to force it into position.

How Spec is your Spec Exhaust now?

It is still Spec. No modifications were made other than twisting and pushing and pulling and adding one more bracket.
I will say safety wire FOR THE WIN!

Per witness reports I was throwing sparks off the curbing and it was hanging about 8 inches off the ground. We wore a nice little flat spot on the midpipe.

I was able to coax someone more mechanically literate then I am (not hard) into rigging it up.

It withstood some pretty hard off’s and general rough treatment. The only test it didn’t pass is the trailer one. We even had the trailer jacked up, several pieces of wood, etc. Not even close.

Next step is seeing if there is anyway to get up closer inside the tranny tunnel.
What kind of oddball trailer are you using?

:stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously, I have done several races, have loaded my car on and off a standard steel open trailer (like the other hundred or so at each weekend), into and out of an enclosed trailer, and have never had a single issue. And John Allen did two years or more with this system and never had a problem either at several tracks, or loading. In the Mid Atlantic, it’s been a non-issue…which is what we want for everyone.

I do, however, want everyone to know that we don’t want major “adjustments” to the system but if you have to tweak it just a little to make it work on your car or trailer, you won’t get DQ’d. Plus, in our weekly telephone conversation, Paul and I discussed a very-small adjustment in the design that will raise it up a little.

Overall, it’s working just fine on most cars. But if you have specific issues and want to discuss them with me directly, feel free to email me.

CarterHunt@aol.com

Also, the Regional Series Directors and I are discussing the few issues with a few cars so email your local Regional Series Director with specific thoughts, ideas, etc.

While the program is working okay for most, we don’t want anyone to worry about the exhaust during race weekends.

And as I have mentioned before, Paul is building the systems as quickly as he can. If you haven’t heard from him or don’t get a quick response, email me directly and I will bring it up during our weekly telephone conversation. Those who have done this can confirm that I have been good about responding.

Standard steel 18ft open deck trailer nothing fancy or weird about it.

I just think for whatever reason having seen a few of these now, mine hangs lower in the midpipe area. I think it can be fixed with minor tweaking, hopefully. If not I’ll let you guys know and we can proceed to plan b.

Mine fell off when I rolled the car out of this one:

we put it back on and then safety wired it up. To avoid any issues we put the car back into this trailer at CMP to take it home.

And it subsequently caught on the transition from the ramp door to the interior and pulled off and dragged via the safety wire.

In retrospect I might get a case or so of those rubber donuts to save the exhaust from any damage by just letting it fall off when it hits something as opposed to having it drop, catch on something and do further damage to the underside of the car or the exhaust itself.

That’s interesting. The ramp looks so gradual.

My trailer is a standard open steel trailer and it’s a pretty steep climb to get it loaded. The exhaust has never been a problem.

I know that Carlton from this area will be at Roebling so show him your concerns. After he returns, we’ll discuss it and I’ll discuss it with Paul. I know that’s going through three people but we should still get the correct information.

As exciting as the prospect of learning to put this thing on in under 45 min. on jacks stand in wet sand and grass sounded. I opt’d to have it ‘fixed’ instead.

It now sits up in the tranny tunnel where it belongs, and got a nice coat of stealth black paint to help prevent it from rusting to pieces. That along with all the tranny oil and speed juice my car naturally leaks should keep it looking new for years to come.

Still welcome to take a gander though.

btw - I’m pretty sure painting it was illegal (beat Bruce to the punch).

Im sure painting it looks awesome but too bad exhausts rust from the inside out…

Looks like your job at Midas is finally paying dividends. Who knew.

Besides all the dudes asking you to examine their tailpipe!
