Thoughts on VIR, Club Racing, and Bimmerworld
More Alonzo…
I installed a 4.10 diff for this weekend, didnt like it, I had to shift up to 5th at the bottom of the hill on the back straight, my car didn thave enough to pull it, so I have lots of video of MG’s Tr’s etc passing me on the back straight. You would think the shorter gear would help pull up the hill…
Yep, lots of cars smashed in all groups, South Bend took quite a few and there was a 4 car pile up in the F2000 race on Sat. If the weather had been a little worse I think even more cars would have been dented.
Al
7 min drive doesn’t suck

Were you the black and orange e30. If that is you, you were fast. I watched the race on Sunday up at the oak tree. Good race. Not sure I can beat you maybe that red one tho
Thanks man, yep black orange and dirt colored.
Should have stopped by and said hi.
Enduro video is processing should be up shortly.
Google kept choking on this so you’ll have to download the raw file if you really really want to see club racing action.
No where near as exciting as Skeen’s VIR car chase but some interesting moments.
First 500 customers served.
VIR is always a fund track to drive, I wish I had the weekend free to come up there, it would’ve been fun to to w/BMW’s…

Been there, done that - at CMP in April, ripped mine off the car pulling it out of my 32’ enclosed trailer and then again pulling it back into the other 48’ semi-trailer…
I will say safety wire FOR THE WIN!
Per witness reports I was throwing sparks off the curbing and it was hanging about 8 inches off the ground. We wore a nice little flat spot on the midpipe.
I was able to coax someone more mechanically literate then I am (not hard) into rigging it up.
It withstood some pretty hard off’s and general rough treatment. The only test it didn’t pass is the trailer one. We even had the trailer jacked up, several pieces of wood, etc. Not even close.
Next step is seeing if there is anyway to get up closer inside the tranny tunnel.

I just felt like this picture should be on the 3rd page as well. Every time I see it I just crack up.

You’re in Atlanta, right? Come and look at what we did to mine.

Based on the results from how Jim installed his…
I hope you are asking so you know what not-to-do
FWIW: I’m pretty sure Jim’s problems are a result of his cheater springs. :woohoo: :S
The install is very simple. Once you get everything on, twist/turn/rotate everything so you have the most clearance possible. You should be OK when it comes to loading and unloading on the trailer. If you have an off…, it’ll just be a matter of luck. The new exhaust is very lightweight. Combine that with how low it sits, and the new spec exhaust seems to be pretty vulnerable to damage. IMO
I’ve put my bid into Carter to be the ‘spec’ trailer supplier for the series as well.
It will be specially modified so that you can load a car without ripping it apart.
Right now all I have is a payphone, so just let it ring and I’ll pick it up when I have a chance.
The good news is I’m using old gutters to keep it light (AL-u-min-ium for the win) and cheap.
Should be around $2000. Rookies first please…
Hey everybody looked who joined our party! World Famous Race Car Driver Seth Thomas of BW.
Seth is a big part of why I could turn a 2.20 at VIR with like a day’s worth of practice.
If any of you clowns have some xmas money left over and want some one on one instruction he is the man to see.
A wizard with the traqmate, and if you don’t have one, he has 3. Seriously I thought I was pretty good with it until he started laying some different graphs on me and gave a few different looks at how to read what I was seeing. And awesome guy too.
Hes also a big part of the flat spot on my exhaust.

Flattery gets you no where, punk. I had some spare time at work today and thought I would check in with the crazy Spec E30 crowd to check on you guys.
I am waiting to see who Al is targeting for his next round of fun.

That is one detail I forgot in the write-up. So on Friday? night the vintage group has a big wine and cheese festival. Everyone in their nice clothes not discussing how to pick up a “vintage” E30.
Al - Crack Kills / Tijuana / Bart Simpson t-shirt (off white/yellow) tight fitting; madras shorts also tight fitting; vietnam booney hat
Shades of Caddyshack…

Geeger, you’re asking the wrong guy. Mr. Bill has People For That, and I pinged Mr. Harrison this afternoon asking for evidence. Eagerly awaiting, I am…
